Good morning, my name is pronker and I'm revving up the van for September. As we back out the driveway, we shall cruise by stories which show the various inspirations that give rise to fics. Why does one write a particular flavor of fic?

Why this must be read:

Beginning with wyncatastrophe's avowed research interests relating to fan culture, especially for sci-fi and fantasy, as well as Northern European folklore, we accelerate into traffic with a trunkful of stories in the Life in Freefall saga. This is a marvelously crafted series of novellas, each neatly plotted and it literally starts out with a bang: Ryn Orun, liaison to Coruscant from her world, Loreth, and hostage of sorts to the Jedi and to her own youthful intensity, plows headfirst into Padawan Anakin Skywalker as they each round the same corner in the labyrinthine Temple. Stunned, the first thing that she sees upon coming to is Anakin's concerned blue eyes. She gets lost in them and finds herself at the same time. Just like in real life, attraction at any level is disconcerting, fun, annoying, addicting ... adjectives in the thesaurus lack the scope to describe feelings, just like Lorethan and Basic don't translate word for word without some loss on either side. There's action and space travel and political intrigue, canon figures such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda and EU figures such as Siri Tachi and her Padawan, Ferus Olin, and even a cameo by a personal favorite of mine from the animated show, The Clone Wars: the honorable pirate, Hondo Ohnaka. Over the interrelated story arcs, action-filled with deep character insights and a thoroughly charming OC in Ryn, you'll quickly become addicted to these tales. Rated T; there are companion pieces to the main body of work, as well. This saga has six completed stories and is trummeling right along, using the same username over on fanfiction.net, where each is linked; the stories are also on LJ.

It may be narcissistic, but I'm adding this to my memories just because it improved my afternoon. And it's proof, if proof were needed, that your advertising skills could sell a boat on Tatooine.

Thanks --- I just remembered that Grandpa said that Grandma could 'make a horse turd smell like a rose' (since they were of the generation that used horses and buggies, though near the tail end *snurfle* of that era) so I probably inherited it from her.
