Four Ways Dief Shows His Love For Turtle (And One That's Vice Versa) by etcetera-cat (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: gen, Dief + Turtle
Length: 1,453 words

Why this must be read:
After I finished yesterday's rec, I decided to go looking for more Dief fic, and lo! I was lucky enough to find this gem, posted just last month!
It's got a fantastic Dief voice and it explains in such a fun, sweet way how Dief could befriend The Turtle in spite of the species barrier between them. But I've gotta say, although the fic's written primarily from Dief's perspective, The Turtle really steals the show for me at the end.
“That is deeply disturbing.” Ray puts down his chopsticks and pad thai and stares first at Fraser then—more pointedly—at Diefenbaker.
Dief, who is standing with his front paws firmly planted against the side of the turtle tank, licking the glass.
“I mean it, Fraser. If your wolf eats my turtle, we are going to have words.”
“Diefenbaker assures me that he does not have culinary designs on your turtle, Ray.” Fraser continues to complacently eat noodles and watch the hockey game on the television (the Hawks are sucking, what a surprise), seemingly completely unaware of the faint squeak squeak squeak of Dief's tongue against the glass.
