Now, As Before by Etherati (R)
Warnings: R. Language. Violence. ZOMBIES. Cracky premise, non-cracky treatment
I've been watching and rewatching The Walking Dead and, as someone that wasn't a zombie fan before, I wouldn't have done so if not for this fic:
Fandom: WATCHMEN
Pairing: Nite Owl II/Rorschach
Length: 29,303 words
Author on LJ:
etherati
Author Website: Masterpost of fic
Why this must be read:
The only reason this hasn't been recced before here has to be because it's been recced everywhere else. 'Zorschach' is one of the fandom's favorites and is very well-known, with other writers having contributed stories to the verse. The author's warning above describes it perfectly--the cracky premise of Rorschach being transformed into a zombie is given serious treatment, and, in the process, works through some of his more human issues--and all in
etherati 's distinctive writing, which I'm not sure the following excerpt captures satisfactorily:

I read anything that
etherati writes because I know it's going to be at least well-written!
Don't forget to feedback the author - it doesn't matter old or new the story is. Authors love to hear from you!

"Something runs in the space between the words, a sickening mixture of hope and futility and normalcy and the sense that nothing will ever be normal again; Rorschach almost says what he's thinking, that he can't really get himself killed when it's already happened, but then he feels a sluggish beat tug through his chest and concedes the point in silence."
