Lie Perdu by Sihaya Black (NC-17)

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 92 KB
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: The Forest Archive http://www.squidge.org/~theforest/senfic.html
Why this must be read: This is one of the first stories of this type I ever read and it introduced me to the incomparable writing of Sihaya Black. I had never been a fan of stories with kink, but this changed my mind. It's a first time story, a rescue story, a bdsm story and was probably the first story I read in which an author explores the side of Jim Ellison that might want to be tied up and dominated. Sihaya Black does this on more than one occasion, but this introduction remains the story I have gone back to re-read the most.

Blair receives a cryptic phone call telling him that Jim needs help:

"Listen to me carefully. Ellison needs you. Badly. He's in Suite 601 of the Cascade Hilton. The door's unlocked. Get there quickly, and for god's sake, go alone."

"Wait a minute," Blair said, instantly awake. He grabbed his pen and scribbled the address in the middle of his notes. "What's the matter with Jim? Who are you?"

"Go alone, Sandburg. Jim will not thank you if you call the police or bring someone else." With a click, the line went dead.

When Blair arrives at the hotel room, he learns why he was ordered to come alone:

Jim lay face-down on the bed, his head toward Blair, although he couldn't see him - he couldn't see anything through the thick black blindfold tied over his eyes. He was making noise, however; the leather gag strapped across his mouth muffled the sounds, but did not completely stifle them. He was also naked. And tied to the bed. And struggling.

What follows is Blair's awkward yet erotic attempt to rescue Jim from his predicament, only to learn that Jim had not been tied up against his will. Blair's newly discovered feelings for Jim and the revelations Jim shares with him lead to the not-unpredictable outcome. Excellent characterizations, hot descriptions and fabulous Jim-angst make this a story worth reading again and again.

I had to use the Wayback Machine to find this story online -- I thought it was at both 852 Prospect and The Forest archives but a search at 852 couldn't turn up Sihaya Black at all and the link at The Forest led to a dead page. But with the Wayback machine, you should be able to read this and Black's other fine stories, including "Lock and Load" the sequel to "Lie Perdu."

I apoloize for starting my Sentinel van drive so late -- I have been out of touch with LJ for awhile, but I plan on making up for lost time. I've been in the fandom for over ten years, so I want to rec both some old faves and also newer wonderful stories.

The author has this story at AO3: Lie Perdu (http://archiveofourown.org/works/4379) and Lock 'n' Load (http://archiveofourown.org/works/4380)

\0/ Your first rec! The first one is always so special. I know Sihaya has opened an account at Archive of Our Own using the Sihaya pseud and also Beledibabe. AO3 seems to be quite unstable at the moment -- I know they did a major upgrade that had the site down for most of the day yesterday. Here's the link I have for Sihaya although it's not working at the moment.

Looking forward to a great month of recs.

AO3 is hosting the Yuletide small fandom challenge this year, and since sign-ups have just begun (and they're having to modify the sign-up forms somewhat), the site will be bombarded for at least a few days. I might suggest reading the story on another archive until the initial sign-up rush is over.

I'll definitely second this rec, however!

How very cool that they are hosting Yuletide. Thanks for letting us know.

Many of the TS authors from ten or more years ago seem to be migrating to AO3. I'm glad to find so many favorite authors gathered in one place. I don't mind having to practice a little patience and wait for the site to settle down again. It's a great place to browse.
