Life on Mars/Doctor Who (R/Blue Cortina)
Title: The joys of insanity by riona
Pairing: Sam Tyler, brief appearances by Annie Cartwright, Sammy Tyler, Gene Hunt
Length: 950
Author on LJ:
rionaleonhart
Author Website: LJ fics
Why this must be read: When I started to think about what I would be reccing this month, I swore that I would *not* use Mars/DW as my crossover - it's an obvious pair of wibbly wobbly timey wimey fandoms with John Simm playing a major character in both. But unlike Sam Tyler, I don't always keep my promises, not even those made to myself, because I *have* to include this wonderful piece of writing. I think it may well have been the first ever Sam-is-the-Master fic and is still one of the best. It's marvellously contained yet bursting at the seams with horror and terror and drums... oh the drums!
One day, he hunts himself down. He corners his four-year-old self down an alleyway and says, "Sam Tyler." His voice is sterner than he meant it to be; he's never been good at talking to children. "Do you hear drumming?"
