Why this must be read:

The writing, is beautiful, melodic, poetic, heartbreaking.  Kowalski and Fraser are very much themselves.  Vecchio's breakdown is realistic, sad, but Vecchio's strength is piercing through.  Kowalski and Fraser treat him with the friendship that is a hallmark of Due South, rather than with pity.

It really is. I also kind of like that we kind of get to decide as readers if this is pre-slash or friendship, and I like that that little detail isn't even really that important, because the writing is so good and the ending is just hopeful enough.

They are very much with him in this fic, indeed. And this writer is very talented at sliding in a hopeful ending just when you're thinking it's going to be a very dark and angsty story overall.
