The Rest in Peace Affair by Rose Burkette (G)
Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: None
Length: about 2900 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: http://file40.net/file40g/rose_stories.html
Why this must be read:
Let me start out by saying this is not a death fic, at least not one the way people usually mean that. Yes, someone dies in this story, but it isn't any of the main characters from the MFU universe. Now with that firmly out of the way...
Napoleon undoubtedly had many jobs as CEA that he found difficult and trying. Informing relatives about the death of a fellow enforcement agent was surely one of those. And when the agent in question had been a friend and one he himself had recruited into the fold of the organization and whose death he somewhat blamed on himself, well...
This tale is gentle and moving, even as it reflects the often hard world of U.N.C.L.E. as a whole and Napoleon's uncompromising administrative place within it. Though this writer's stories are often too scattered for me, this one I found soft and sweet and simply affecting.
It's short, so no excerpt, simply read and enjoy.
