A Very Winchester Christmas by Raina (NC-17)
Well, this is it for me this month, and just in time! It's been a lot of fun and I'll be back; 12 stories hardly puts a dent in all the amazing Supernatural fics I've read over the years. Happy holidays, everyone!
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Length: ~4,000

Christmas stories are always my favorite and I thought this would be a good note to end on with Christmas nearly around the corner.
This story was written before "A Very Supernatural Christmas" and thus has a more positive interpretation of Winchester Christmases, but the author creates some lovely visuals, and a convincing back story. The pacing is slow and perfect, the sex sweet, the underlying sentiment beautiful.
The snow crunches under his heavy winter boots, and the air is so cold it stings his eyes. The night is so crisply clear he can see the Milky Way. It’s his favourite kind of winter night, sharp as ice and perfect.
He follows the church bells through the icy streets, soon joined by the few faithful who are out at this hour, on their way to Midnight Mass.
The church is small and lit entirely by candles. The parishioners flock into the church in groups of threes and fours, families and couples, parents with their children. Sam sits in the back and looks at the candles, the stained-glass windows, the light reflecting from old stone and colored glass.
He watches people greet each other, friends and family members, watches them sit and chat, and there’s an almost palpable sense of community in the air.
The bells stop ringing, and a hand comes to rest on his shoulder. Sam looks up and smiles at Dean’s confused expression.
Sam doesn’t say anything, just shrugs, indulge me?.
Dean visibly hesitates, but then a small bell is rung, and the congregation rises. Mass has begun. Dean slides into the booth next to Sam with a sceptical look, but he doesn’t say a word.
Sam bows his head and lets the comfort of ritual take over, soaks up the quiet, peaceful, serene atmosphere of the church.
