Fandom Overview: Warehouse 13

Hullo my name is Kt and I am your driver for Warehouse 13 this month!  As this is the first time it's been featured on crack van I get to write a fandom overview. Yay!

Warehouse 13 is an American fantasy show filmed in Toronto/Montreal Canada that premiered July 7 2009 on Syfy. Despite one reviewer describing it as, and I quote, "an unholy cross between The X-files, Bones, and Raiders of the Lost Ark." it was Syfy's best rated show that year. With that kind of hype most of us thought that  it would kind of crash mid season. Warehouse 13 is still happily going strong and has been renewed for a third season this summer.

Warehouse 13 is also known for being one of the first shows that actually had a cross over with characters from another show appearing in an episode. In this case being the Syfy show Eureka.
Dr. Douglas Fargo appears in season two Episode five and Claudia Donovan appears in Season four Episode six of Eureka.

Basically Warehouse 13 is a storage container for all sorts of strange supernatural objects such as Lewis Carrol's looking glass (avec CrazyAlice! trapped inside), The disco ball from Studio 54 (plays I will survive if dropped), and Edgar Allan Poe's pen and journal (lets the user rewrite their reality and drives them crazy with whispers in the process).  Once things are captured and doused with a "mysterious"  purple goo they are stored in the warehouse where they can't hurt anybody. Or so they think, but this being a TV show things go missing, are stolen, were never there in the first place, are labelled wrong... the list goes on. Things just never seem to be where they should be.

And now to meet the Cast:

Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock):
A happy go lucky rule bender is probably a good way to describe Pete. He also has this "Vibe" thing that has helped solve more than one case. We also know a bit more about Pete than any of the other cast, such as: He was a Marine, his deaf sister taught him how to read lips, and he's been sober since 2002.  He also has a huge weakness for Cookies. So if you want to catch your very own Pete Lattimer bait your trap with chocolate chip cookies.  In season 2 it's a bit of a running gag that his personal effects haven't arrived yet.
In fandom Pete is often paired up with:
Het:Myka, and Dr. Kelly Hernandez (The Town Vet)
Slash: Artie

Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly):

A kick ass by the books agent, Myka originally thought her assignment to the warehouse was a punishment. Especially after she met her new partner. Suffice to say, Pete and Myka do not get along that well for the first couple episodes. Lots of UST flying around.
In Season one we learn that Myka's overbearing father owns a bookstore and that she spent a lot of time there hanging out reading, and so views her self as the nerdy sister. A view which Pete debases her of by telling her she's "Stunningly Beautiful" in Season two when she goes under cover as a model.
Myka has a pet ferret that she named Pete because like Pete (the human) it is "cute and annoying". At the end of Season two she resigns because of her mistake in trusting HG Wells.
In fandom Myka is often paired with:
Het: Pete
FemSlash: HG Wells

Claudia Donovan (Allison Scagliotti):

On Wikipedia Claudia is described as a "young, hip, brilliant techno-wiz"  and that's not far off. We first meet her when she hacks into the Warehouse and kidnaps Artie to help her find her brother. After they rescue her brother Claudia starts hanging around the Warehouse annoying Artie. In the Season one finale she is accused of stealing artifacts from the Warehouse and storms off. In Season two Claudia is vindicated and promoted to Junior agent.
In Fandom she is often paired with:
Het: Todd, Douglas Fargo, Artie

Dr. Arthur "Artie" Nielsen (Saul Rubinek):
Artie is in charge of Warehouse 13. Not a lot a lot else is known about him other than:
He is a complete and utter worry wart, he was once charged with treason, and he loves baking cookies.
In the above picture Artie has adopted his standard 'It's all going to hell' look. During the Season one finale he is caught in an explosion and presumed dead. In Season two we find out that he survived due to an artifact called the
"Phoenix charm".
In fandom he is often paired with:
Het:Mrs. Frederic, The Warehouse, Claudia
Slash: James MacPherson, Pete

Secondary Characters:

Leena (Genelle Williams):

Leena is the slightly spooky, slightly psychic owner of the bed and breakfast  Pete and Myka live at. In Season one it's discovered that she is under the influence of MacPherson through an artifact. In season two they sort that issue out but discover that there is still some residual energy bouncing around in there.

Mrs. Irene Frederic (C. C. H. Pounder):

Also known in my house as the freaky lady with the great hair. Mrs Frederic is the director of Warehouse 13.
She has strange powers and is all around weird.  Clues point to her being older than she looks.

James MacPherson (Roger Rees):
Artie's love interest at one time best friend. Somewhere along the line he went bad and in season one tries to kill Artie. That plan backfires and in Season two he dies instead.

H. G. Wells (Jaime Murray):

H.G. Wells (Yes that H.G. Wells)  was a Warehouse Agent in the late 19th Century.  After her daughter died she asked to be bronzed.  MacPherson freed her in the Season one finale to help with his nefarious plan. In Season two she cut a necklace that kept him alive and so killed him.  For some strange reason they reinstate her as an agent. Three episodes later they catch her trying to start another ice age and so chuck her into a holding facility that is apparently worse than being bronzed.

Daniel Dickinson (Simon Reynolds):

Pete and Myka's old boss. He is killed in Season two because of his knowledge of Artie's past.

Dr. Kelly Hernandez (Paula Garcés):
Univille's (Unnamed Unincorporated Settlement) town Vet. Pete's season two love interest.

Benedict Valda (Mark Sheppard):

The most seen of the regents. The Regents are like the Warehouse's board of directors.

IMHO, I think that Benedict Valda is a name that Crowley uses for some nefarious.

Mark Sheppard is in EVERYTHING.

I think he's the first entry in "The Big Book Of Actors by Type" under "magificent conniving bastard."

He's awesome.

Does he have a British accent in this, too? He's ever so much more awesome with it. Although his American accent on "Dollhouse" made me wonder if he was another entry into the catalogue of Whedonverse actors who aren't actually British but fake it damn well (he's not, though, he's actually British).

Yep, he does.

Actually he's Irish. Though he was born in England he spent his youth in Ireland and says he's from Ireland if asked.

White Collar, too. And always the same-ish role...
