Why this must be read:  Because this story, broken up into sections loosely framed by song titles from Revolver, has a raw authenticity and insight, you feel that Akamine has put you inside their heads.  She vividly brings Callum and Hugh's Hard Core Logo/Roadshow ups and downs to life: the lines blurring between Callum/Hugh and Billy/Joe, their complicated relationship, and the struggles of addiction--to people as well as substances.

 

Callum is glad he's in Winnipeg when they film the the end of the movie, the climatic scene where Joe kills himself. There are still six days of shooting left and he doesn't think he can handle being there in person, watching Hugh lift the gun to his head and pull the trigger—

He realizes then how much Hugh's come to mean to him, how fucked he is when this job is over. Cal's always managed to hold himself aloof during productions, but this time he's failed. This time he's involved, willing or not. Heart, body and soul: Hugh's managed to engage all of him.

He's so fucking screwed.
