Why this must be read: Most people have had at least one date that's gone horribly, horribly wrong. You start with the best laid plans and wonderful romantic intentions and somewhere along the way you end up with something that is at best a funny story to tell and at worst, a complete and utter fiasco. This particular story of Dean and Cas's first date is actually a bit more serious than most, although it's tempered beautifully with those moments of absurdity that can only happen when an angel and a human try to get together (with the whole world watching). Dean's trying so hard not to screw things up and Cas is clueless when it comes to seduction techniques, but somehow in spite of flaming desserts, voyeuristic elementals, dancing cephalopods, and some brotherly interference, they manage to have an evening that is quintessentially them: sweet and a little bit weird.

"I hadn't known that was a property of tiramisu," Castiel mused, inspecting the singed end of his tie as Dean started up the car. "Fire."

"It isn't. Isn't supposed, to be, anyway. You sure you're okay?" He glanced over, frowning. Certainly neither of them had seen it coming -- one minute there's a perfectly normal and awesome looking square of tiramisu, and the next it's a tiny ball of fire. Luckily Dean had been shocked to the point of knocking over his water glass, right onto the blazing dessert., before the fire could spread any further over the table or up Jimmy Novak's poor blue tie.

"Yes. I'm unharmed. Though I would still like to try a tiramisu at another time. The description in the menu was appealing." He paused. "Assuming that, again, it's not supposed to be on fire."

"It's not supposed to be on fire," Dean confirmed. "I don't know how that happened." He had an itchy feeling about it, but he was determined not to let it ruin the evening. It was his first date for fuck's sake.
