my general policy was to explain only as far as necessary to get someone in the door, but football is a little more spread out than tennis anyway, I think. obviously you've got to go over Fedal and explain that about 75% of the fandom is just that pairing (oh, I meant to offer when I saw you were doing tennis, this (http://meretricula.livejournal.com/105785.html) might be helpful), but after that... I think you can indulge your own tastes a little. ;)

I mean, I guess you could make a statement by reccing from stuff other than fedal but at least for the fandom overview I think you pretty much have to acknowledge its chokehold on fandom. idk, really. I hate to admit it but most of the really great fic in this fandom is fedal, so. >_>

If you don't frequent fedal_slash regularly, you really don't know just how much there is of it because that's practically separate from the tennisslash community. Of course I know it's the biggest pairing. I have focus on that in the overview, along with pairings popular enough for a tag at tennisslash as well as a couple others. Since I'm not a Fedal fan, I know most of my recs will be involving other pairings because that just makes more sense to me. That said, I am reading through your list and there are a couple I never heard of previously that are likely getting recced.

hmm. I mean, if you don't like Fedal you certainly don't have to rec those fics! (tbh I don't like it much anymore either, I'm certainly not going to press for it.) link to that list if you like in your fandom overview but don't martyr yourself. XD rec what you like. the only reason I did footie the way I did was because I do read pretty omnivorously and I had a convenient list to cherry-pick from.

I wouldn't rec a story unless I like it. That said, there are fic I would have never seen because I don't go to fedal_slash and that's where the list comes into play (and I'll admit there is some good stuff on the list).
