Why this must be read: This sparse, poetic little piece gets over so much about both characters in so few words. It shows a human, vulnerable side to Adrian without ignoring his flaws, while Jon's detachment and inability to connect even with someone with whom he's sexually and intellectually intimate are both chilling and poignant.
