Why this must be read:
How would you react when your siblings realize they aren't normal? Their feelings are everything but not normal? Could you accept them? Could you be still the same one? Cheerful with no worries?
Max can't do this. Through his eyes we see the slowly destruction of the Russo family. One vacation, one night, a feeling which should be a reason to be joyful, destroy this family and Max can only watch. It's heartbreaking to see how he falls apart. Nobody helps him... Nobody? No, there is Harper who also lost her path and wants to be his friend.
Even if the fic is sad and melancholic there is still a shimmer of hope. Maybe it's impossible and unrealistic for everyone to have a happy end but maybe Max and Harper are two of these happy ones.
The author shows us this through simple words and moments but these things make the fic perfect. It fits perfect to show the mix of sadness and hope. So it's maybe no surprise that this is for me the best non-Jalex fic in this fandom and one of my personal favorites (and the reason that I ship Max/Harper....).
