Why this must be read:
I need to clear up two things right away. First, I am a huge sucker for kidfic. Second, I am extremely skeptical of kidfic in this particular fandom. That said, this one is fabulous. It is completely AU and told entirely from the perspective of young Tristram Holmes, very much Sherlock's son. It paints a very believable picture of Sherlock Holmes as a single parent, with occasional unwelcome intrusion from Mycroft. At school Tristram meets Emily Watson and they become friends. The usual kidficcy sort of thing. But there is also a mystery wound through the story and some nail biting tension that had me shouting out loud at the characters. The narration is at times rather frustrating (in a good way) because you want desperately to know what is going on but Tristram doesn't fully understand the world of the adults who surround him, so you can't either. It's a nice long satisfying read.

Also, I think yours may be the greatest icon I have ever seen. I am going to just start working that into conversations.
