This fic illustrates what I most love about the Gibbs and Tony father/son relationship, the sense of pride that Gibbs has for his senior field agent. The pride in him professionally and the pride from a father for a son that he knows has been raised well.
While Gibbs may not have been there for the first walks or the college graduations, he is there for the professional commendations for heroism and to take care of his "son" after injuries on the job. He's there now to provide that soothing pizza and those words of " Proud'a ya" that Tony so needs, and deserves, to hear.
