The Steve Walker Artwork Challenge by various authors (G to NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair (mostly)
Length: snippet to medium length
Authors on LJ: see individual stories
Why this must be read: Because sometimes it’s just amazing how inspiring one person can be.
This first recommendation is actually a collection of stories tied to a
sentinel_thurs challenge.
carodee recently reported that the incredibly talented painter Steve Walker had passed away quite suddenly in January. She points to this tribute by Dustandroses (warning for dial-up users that this has a lot of artwork in the post).
Way back in 2005, there was a Sen Thurs challenge for people to write stories based on Steve’s artwork. With hundreds of paintings to choose from, it was a particularly fruitful prompt. Almost seven years to the day later, the world mourns the loss of the artist who inspired 23 stories in that TS challenge, as well as countless other writers and artists. If he had known, I think Mr. Walker would have approved and enjoyed these interpretations of his art.
The original web page cited in the challenge is gone, but you can see his paintings here . Definitely worth the time to peruse the source material as you read the many and varied stories.
Listed in the order they were posted to Sen Thurs.

Thank you for such a great rec - I don't think I ever got round to reading all of these, and it's a fabulous idea to have them all grouped in one place again like this. *beams*

For the sake of completeness/historical record :-), I wanted to give the link to my Steve Walker entry (http://sentinelsecrets.livejournal.com/12352.html) -- it was so late that I ended up using it in a round of Sentinel Secrets as well. :-) Hmm, those were some fun times...

There's still some fun times to be had. We just finished up the Reverse Big Bang, which was so reminiscent of this challenge, because in the RBB the artwork came first and then the stories inspired by them. Mab has asked (and a lot of the artists are agreeing) if she can post the artwork as a Sen Thursday challenge, so other writers who are inspired by the pieces can write new stories. And the mini Bang (short works between 2-10K) will kick off this summer.
So, when you get settled in for the summer, stop by. Perhaps something will inspire you to write. If not, there should be some good reading.

I certainly hope to take a look at some of the cool stuff that's going on -- we'll see how things turn out... :-/
