Why this must be read: Ray Kowalski, fresh out of the Academy, is off-again with his girlfriend Stella. He's stuck at an event with her family, but fortunately Stella's got a hot cousin in the Navy and he is able to distract Ray. This story is full of love and lust and cars and speed and sex and self-discovery. It's all the very best things about being young - feeling invincible, untouchable and free, like something out of a Springsteen song.
