Why this must be read: I'm surprised this story hasn't been recced before. It's an epic tale of a young Marine named Gibbs meeting a little boy called Tony and their journey together through the years. You definitely need to take the time to really delve into the story, get to know the OCs (of which there are many, but they're pretty much all awesome) and allow yourself to be swept away by this epic AU. You can't help but fall in love with the characters, and even though this is as AU as it gets, they're all still most definitely the characters we know and adore.

There's joy and heartache, funny moments and angst, and through it all, a bond between Gibbs and Tony that is so strong, nothing can't keep them apart (even though it may look like it a couple of times!). Please do heed the warnings in the story header, but believe me when I tell you that it's well worth giving the story a try anyway.

You're absolutely right about the "true" part. That's what I love most about "Through The Years" especially, I think, the way the whole story just seems so realistic and "taken out of real life" (if that makes sense).
