Why this must be read: I am closing out the month with one of my all time favorite series. The Compatible Damage Series are genderswap casefics loosely based on ACD cases. The third story The Silences is still an unfinished WIP. The Skeleton Winter and Let Sense Be Dumb are exciting, well-plotted case fics that brilliantly update ACD stories. They are also character studies of Joanna Watson in all her broken yet badass glory. This is not a genderswap just for the sake of it. Joanna being the complex, strong, yet damaged women that she is central to the stories and her relationship with Sherlock while still recognizably being our beloved Dr Watson. Branwyn perfectly shows that Joanna and Sherlock are two very messed up people whose complex, codependent relationship is exactly what they both need.
"Joanna knows that enlisting as the only recruit in Sherlock's private army isn't going to make her less damaged. But Sherlock puts her damage to good use. Joanna thinks that is by far the best thing that could have happened to her. It may, in fact, be the only thing that could have saved her."
