Excitable by Shrift (NC17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Benton Fraser
Author on LJ:
shrift
Author Website: http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/shrift/index.html
Why this must be read:
Some of my favorite Due South stories are ones that pick up on a tiny little fact or detail from canon and manage to work it into a full blown (ond often, very hot) story. Excitable is definitely one of them.
Fraser comments in the episode Hawk and a Handsaw, how Diefenbaker is fascinated by blonds because he never saw people with blond hair in the North. Shrift manages to work this into a fic that will nearly melt your eyeballs right out of their sockets.
One of the most amazing things about Shrift, in my opinion, is that in every fandom she writes in (and lord, there are many), she's prolific, and talented and gets voices and mannerisms of characters so spot on you can very nearly see the exchanges that she writes, actually happening in canon.
"Admittedly, Diefenbaker has in the past only exhibited this type of transfixion with blonde-haired females, but I suspect his fascination has something to do with..."
"With what?"
Fraser paused, scratching his temple. "Well, Ray, your hair is..."
"Blond," Ray supplied. He jigged his foot. "And?"
"Blond," Fraser said, "and rather excitable."
*swoons*
It's just - wow. Amazing, and HOT and funny, and includes two of my very favorite Ray Kowalski lines in a fic ever (and if you guess what they are I'll give you a cookie *g*) and really - I know I seem to be bossing you all around this month, but go! Read! NOW!

So glad you liked the rec!

I have the same reaction to due South stories--there are soooo many great ones, and that is the real reason I fell for the fandom, you know. Because I read the fanfic before I saw any of the show.

Well then, I'm glad I was able to help out!

Ray hadn't exactly figured out how to insert the phrase, 'And oh, yeah, by the way, Fraser, I've got a not-exactly-theoretical two-directional swing to my samba,' into their normal conversation.
and...
And here Ray thought he'd carried a big torch for Stella. The one he had for Fraser would make a performance arsonist piss her pants.
Am I right? Hmm? Well, anyway they made me laugh. Great rec, btw. Just what I needed. :)

And the other...? "You feed me tofu for dinner, your deaf half-wolf won't stop looking at me, and you think I got hair with a...a nerve disorder or something." ??
Well? How'd I do?

LOL - yes, this is definitely the first one.
But no! No one's getting the second one yet! Bad raffe - no biscuit!
*smooches you*

"You'd say the same thing, only more polite and with a couple of big words that only those nine year old geniuses on spelling bees know."

Sorry - but thank you for playing. We've got some lovely parting gifts for you *g*
*smooches*
(But yay again. Another wonderful guess!)

Nope! These aren't it either (though again, wonderful and valid choices, both) but I'm glad you liked the fic and the rec!
Thanks!

(Note that I am at work and have not reread this story yet, so this is from memory. Heh.)

*gives pearl cookies and chocolate*
You got them! The first is the, "Then rack that bad boy and cover me."
And the second, most definitely is, "Things are usually good when I'm yelling, 'Fuck me harder,' Benton buddy. Little rule of thumb, there."
*thinks pearl is WAAAAAAAAAy smart and sexy*
