This simple story has stayed with me since the first time I read it. It's that EXTREMELY rare beast, a songfic that not only works, but works beautifully. The well-chosen song is accurate to the era; plus, since it did not suffer from the kind of over-popularity that breeds contempt, its message remains fresh and tender, and lends itself perfectly to triggering the sea change that a post-"Sweet Revenge", slowly-recovering Starsky undergoes with Hutch's guitar in his hands.
