“An Ideal Husband” by Irene Adler (AKA the Plaid Adder) (R)
Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES
Pairing: Irene Adler/Violet Hunter; Holmes/Watson
Author on LJ: plaidder
Author Website: The Adder’s Lair
Why this must be read:
Normally I try to avoid reccing an author more than once, but this five-part story is too wonderful to ignore. The author bills it as a sequel to “Absurdly Simple” (one character from the earlier story makes a cameo) but it can be enjoyed on its own. The plot is very clever, the quotations from the titular Oscar Wilde play are fantastic, and the depiction of Holmes and Watson at work and play is perfect, as in the scene where the neglected doctor tantalizes a preoccupied detective by refusing to read aloud the end of an interesting news article:
On top of all this, it has femslash. Finding F/F in this fandom is like pulling teeth; finding femslash this good is nothing short of miraculous.

I closed the paper up and made to put it on the table by the settee. "Never mind, Holmes. You are busy, and I am sure that if you ruminate long enough it will come to you. After all, reflect that when you have eliminated that which is impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
Holmes's eyes snapped, and he thrust a hand in my direction. "Give me that paper, Watson."
"I wouldn't dream of interrupting your work."
"Watson--"
As he rose from his chair, I lifted the paper again, pretending to get ready to toss it into the grate. Holmes flew across the room, launching himself toward the paper in my outstretched arm, and landing sprawled across the settee, and me.
"Watson," he said, looking up at me and trying to preserve a shred of dignity.
"Yes, Holmes?"
"I promise you that you have my complete attention."
