Double Indemnity: the Other Side of Weird by George (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Too Complicated - Maybe Everyone (And Their Evil Twin), Maybe None

Author Website:
Why this must be read:
For Halloween, I wanted to rec something appropriate to the holiday, but as opposed to fandoms whose main conceit includes a certain element of the grotesque, like Highlander or The X-Files, Due South isn't a fandom terribly conducive to terror. "Double Indemnity: the Other Side of Weird" is about as horrifying a fic as I've ever seen, not so much in the "blood, guts, and gore" sense but more in the sense of its mind-bending oddity and absurdity. With a particular fondness for psychotic twins, "Double Indemnity" heaps one bizarre cliché on top of another building to a climax of epic, excessive proportions. No genre of TV or film safely escapes this parody. Evildoers abound, bunny rabbits attack, and steaks are served rare, very rare, with a side of fava beans.
"They wheeled the patient into the holding cell. She was sedated sufficiently that she would fall asleep in twenty minutes. Her brown eyes stared straight ahead of her, unblinking and vapid. They lifted her onto the bed, strapped her down and latched the door behind them. VECCHIO, R. would sleep soundly this night."
