The Ferret-Legging Affair by A.J. Burfield (PG)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: not that I know.
Author website:http://file40.net/file40g/aj_stories.html
Why this must be read:
Since my month as MFU driver is almost over, I thought I’d end like a fireworks display usually does, with a kind of grand finale.
Back in the spring of 2003, the members of Channel_W, one of the discussion lists for MFU writers, were talking about how short a short story could be and still have a plot with a beginning, middle and end.
So, a challenge was declared and in the end, 17 authors, both gen and slash, responded with 29 short short stories. Each one is *exactly* 1,000 words each.
AJ’s story is one of the funniest with a great punchline, and it leaves the reader as gap-mouthed by this bizarre “sport” as the field agents themselves.
But, if you read this story, don’t stop there. The challenge stories are like a sampler box of chocolates ---each one, a delicious little bite of the wider U.N.C.L.E. universe.
