Minnesota Morning by Fiona Courtney (R)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ: Not that I can find
Author Website: Me and Thee Archive
Why this must be read: Every now and then, I love reading an outsider's view of a loving relationship like this one. Sometimes, it's hard trying to get family to understand, and I found the reactions from Hutch's family believable, and heart-warming to think that the world isn't so easily divided; with homophobes or totally accepting people with no in between. Or maybe I'm just so out of it from this cold, I'm not making any sense. Lol.
There isn't much dialogue involved, but I think the descriptions and the emotions that are conveyed so cleverly outweigh any wish for more dialogue. The ending, especially, really hit me hard because it gives you an insight into both sides of the fence, as it were, highlighting the fact that there is no perfect relationship. Or, as I like to think, they are perfect because of their imperfections.
Excerpt:
You didn't usually see that face looking so peaceful. You'd have thought that for once he was enraptured by the beauties of nature. But he wasn't looking out towards the lake, he was looking back towards the house. He looked happy, he looked dreamy, but then suddenly his face broke into the most dazzling smile you ever saw. Beat the sunshine all hollow. I wasn't that surprised when I saw my brother walking down the path to join him.

Sister
Re: Sister
Re: Sister
I adored Paula and still miss her. She had a way with the boys. Also, his sister's named Kimberly;)
Re: Sister
I remember seeing a dedication page to Paula on at least one website, although I can't remember which because of my selective-seive memory. She sounded like an amazing woman, and even though I didn't know her, I think I can feel a little bit of an emotional effect from what people have had to say about her. I wish I could have met her, but I'm so glad she could enrich so many people's lives. :)
