Family, Friendship, and Love by Henry Jones, Jr. (PG-13ish)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex

Why this must be read:
This is a happy, "comfort" fic for me. Sort of the narrative equivalent of a warm bowl of potato soup on a cold day.
This is one of my all-time favorite SV fics, one I’ve savored numerous times. Everything works so well here. Even though this is an mpreg, that is not the true focus of the story. Beyond the oddity of Clark being the one giving birth, this is a good examination of teen pregnancy and how it completely alters Clark’s life. He is isolated from his friends and forced to grow up very quickly. Clark chooses to keep his pregnancy a secret from Lex, and so loses that source of support and friendship when Lex returns to Metropolis shortly after their one-night stand.
Sam, Clark and Lex’s son, is one of my favorite original characters. With Lex as a father, of course he’s a genius, and with Clark as a father, of course he’s a sweetheart. Lex re-enters Clark’s life years later, and I love the return of their friendship with Sam as a catalyst. Even though Lex does not realize Sam is really his son, he can’t help but fall in love with the tyke. The slow rise of love out of friendship is lovely to behold, and I always relish the moment when Lex realizes he’s in love with his best friend—and the moment he knows the love is returned. This story is charming, heartwarming and very well-written.
