Author Website: Great concept, but would it fly?
Why this must be read:
I've always thought that Elim Garak -- the sneaky, manipulative, frighteningly intelligent and bizarrely charming Cardassian tailor/spy of Deep Space 9 -- feels very much like a Blake's 7 character who somehow wandered into the Star Trek universe by mistake. It turns out, not really to my surprise, that he in fact makes a better B7 character than the actual B7 characters.
altariel1 is incredibly good at writing Garak, and this story gives us an interesting professional's perspective on Our Protagonists' amateur revolutionary tactics, culminating in a wickedly brilliant AU twist.
My absolute favorite bit, though, is this:

'Some sort of temporal or spatial anomaly?' I hazarded.
Blake frowned. 'Doesn't sound very likely,' he said.
'Where I come from,' I replied, 'It happens all the time.'
