Why this must be read:
Djinn's "Carter Series", in which Spock and Chapel serve, respectively, as captain and first officer aboard a medical/diplomatic ship, is an excellent read. The story I've selected is one of the early ones, in which the crew (a fine combination of canon and original characters) sets off on their first mission. There's drama, suspense, angst, heartbreak, a medical mystery and above all, wonderfully nuanced characterizations throughout. Djinn has few equals when it comes to portraying Christine Chapel.
