Man From U.N.C.L.E./The Wild Wild West (R)

Title: The Wild Wild U.N.C.L.E. by Taliesin

Pairing: Solo/Kuryakin & West/Gordon
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Taliesin's Reach

Why this must be read:

Napoleon and Illya have suddenly found themselves prisoners in the Wild West due to Dr. Loveless and his time machine. There is a third man also in Loveless's tender care, named James West, and his partner Artemus Gordon has come to rescue him.  The two sets of agents join forces to capture Loveless and also get the U.N.C.L.E. agents back to their time and place.

Artie and Illya bond together in the train's laboratory, which causes an odd reaction in Jim that he doesn't understand.  These strange feelings get stronger when Jim and Artie accidentally catch sight of Illya and Napoleon kissing.  Jim is shocked, but Artie starts to wonder if there is really anything wrong with being in love with another man.

Taliesin neatly wraps the mission and its planning around a story of two sets of men learning to work with each other and with their own feelings.

Even though I basically loathe crossovers, I loved this story. Jim and Arty and Napoleon and Illya were all delightful.

I just happened to wander over to crack van and went "Ooh! I loved this one!" so I thought I'd second your rec. :)
Hm...are there any MFU crossovers in crack van memories?? Oh, yes, I think there are some Pros ones.

I wish I had the focus to do it -- but all my favorites have been recced (at least, that I can think of).

I was wrong -- Lyrebird also rec'd one: Man from U.N.C.L.E./Eroica Do Blonds Really Have More Fun?.

There's Brenda's Man from U.N.C.L.E./Rocky Horror Picture Show/Stargate SG-1/Professionals/Sentinel/X-Files The Step to the Left Affair and the Pros ones. Bren's moved her archive so the link is out-of-date.

There's also been RAC's UNCLE/WWW cross-over.

I have three more stories to rec this month then the fans need to twist someone's arm to do it next month. I also did it last July and I'm tired of it.

I know how you feel; I've done it two or three times in the last year. It could be that UNCLE, like Pros, will eventually be pulled as a major fandom. If not enough fans are willing to give it a go, there's little point in continuing.

There is not all that much UNCLE fiction around, unfortunately. I have gotten hooked on it by crack_van, and I want more of it, dammit!

[identity profile] leethet.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
But I kind of hope people don't rec too many zine stories unless they're available on line too. That's way too evil a tease.

[identity profile] gilda-elise.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't think that was allowed, that the story had to be online in order to be recced. But I think there's still quite a bit available; I know there's tons of stories I haven't got to yet, mainly because I have tended to focus more on the zines.

It doesn't help that it's been 40 years since the original airings. The core fans are aging out, although you have a subgroup like my kids who read all my paperbacks and watched the show on cable.

Makes you wonder what the holdup is concerning the release of the DVDs. I've seen so many less popular shows from that time showing up on DVD, yet we're still waiting for UNCLE.

In the meantime, I'm eyeing NCIS fiction. I have a feeling that pretty soon there'll be enough to start a group for it. Unfortunately right now I don't care for a lot of the stuff out there, with a few notable exceptions.

I thought there already were several NCIS groups. I know [livejournal.com profile] nakeisha is very much hooked into that fandom. :-)

Not that I'm aware of but I'm not really into the fandom. The stories I've read I've run across while scoping out UNCLE stories. As you say, there's quite a bit of crossover when it comes to their fans.

ooooo, Sherlock Holmes slash. Pleasepleaseplease do! You MFU guys think ya got it rough? There's REALLY not enough Holmes slash. Not that there would *ever* be enough, but really, there's very little.

I see the Profs ones, etc, have been mentioned. There's also Anne Higgins' "The Parallel Lives Affair" (third in that s,l & U Affair series)that's a crossover with The A-Team. I think [livejournal.com profile] kelliem recced it here.

Oh yeah. I generally sort of skip the third story because I don't care for crossovers. :) Although Sex, Lies and Uncle 1 and 2 are great stories.

Bravo! I read and liked very much this story but everything written by Taliesin is very worth re-reading several times.

I wanted to rec a crossover for "Pros" but didn't find a decent one that had not already been recced, at least in the fandoms I know. Those I picked up on "Pros" archives were abysmally stupid and badly written.

I had the same problem but for me a lot of it has to do with not liking stories where one of them ends up with someone else...even if it's a character played by the same actor.

Have you read the Pros/Sentinel cross-over by Nell Howell? It hasn't been recced and it's hilarious.

How do you feel about the Ducky/Albert Stroller stories?

There have even been a few I really liked. Problem is, I prefer them portrayed as young men, where they invariably come off as an AU Napoleon and Illya.

Or the Ducky/Napoleon ones? There's one or two out there that I like, but they basically treat Ducky as being Illya in a new identity after he leaves UNCLE.

Yeah, there have been a couple of those I've liked because, as you say, it's really Illya. Just as Napoleon is often going by "Albert." Unfortunately, I don't really see Illya in Ducky. Ducky's personality isn't at all how I'd imagine Illya's would be at that age, though I can readily see Napoleon's in Albert.

The bad crossover I was refering to was a "Pros"/"Sentinel" one but not by Nell Howell and, really, really pityful. It's too late now but I'd like to read it for my personal pleasure. Where is it? I like her style and, well, she is Cowley friendly too...

[identity profile] gilda-elise.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't read much Sentinel so haven't run across the one you're talking about. At least, I don't think I have. Anyway, here's Nell's. She used a pseudonym so don't let the name throw you; it's hers. It helps if you've read Jane's GOMM zines.

Link Update!

I wasn't sure if it was ok to comment with it, and some of the links I've found broken hadn't been commented on in literally years, I left the link. It's nice of you to update! Since I had Taliesin's page open in another tab, I just popped it in.

I have been spending waaaaayyyyyy lots of time reading Illya/Napoleon lately, so ya know, just trying to help out the other janie-come-latelys like me. :)

And crack_van is the best thing ever! It has so many of my favourite obscure shows listed, I love it here! *squee*
