Paint It Black is a multi-chaptered college AU with Jon and Stephen. No, wait, don't run away! Yes, school AUs normally make me run away too, but this fic intertwines their old quirks like Stephen's off-putting-ness and Jon's smoking with dialogue that is very true to their characters today. Their relationship starts off rather unexpectedly and turns into something wonderful.

Excerpt

There were no longer three desks separating them in the class they shared. Stephen had closed the gap one morning, dropping himself in the seat next to Jon unceremoniously and leaning towards him to ask, "What'd you do last night?"

Thought about you while I touched myself, Jon said to himself remorsefully. When he was nervous, his internal monologue went into an annoying overdrive. "Just played with my Slinky," he lied, suppressing a self-effacing smile.

Stephen raised a highly-expressive brow. "Is that a euphemism?"

"Not at all. Those things are fun on stairs."

"How high were you, Jon?"

Mr. Douillet gamboled into the room just then, and Stephen continued, keeping his voice low.

"Next time, let me know when you get out the Slinky," he said, grinning. "I could bring mine over. Two are better than one, you know."
