The Fusion Affair by Dorinda (NC-17)
Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author Website: Dorinda's Bare Bones Page
Why this must be read:
Napoleon is saddled with a new partner, and he's not too happy about it. There's a delightful whimsical tone to his introspections as he muses on the loss of his freedom.
The tomcat at last had a collar and leash. The stallion had been put into harness. The anointed heir to Alexander Waverly's throne had been given a mandatory playmate. Waverly himself had beckoned with his wand (all right, his pipe, but the effect was the same) and made it happen, and that meant there just wasn't anything to be done about it.
However, everything changes as Napoleon and Illya seem to forge a mental union in order to escape from Thrush. Or did they? Is this 'fusion' real, or is Napoleon imagining things?
It's funny and intriguing and there's this lovely half-clothed scene in the shower. There isn't much banter, but that's only because they've found a more elemental way to get their point across.

Now you have to tell me where your nick "deepsix" comes from. There's a MFU ep by that name!
Maybe I can pimp you further by showing you some UNCLE wallpaper. Napoleon and Illya have such cool names...but wait till you see their faces:

Re:
I actually got "deepsix" from a Matthew Good Band song of the same name, because I couldn't think of anything else at the time. Not terribly interesting, I know. :)

Hmm. I wonder if the songwriters know MfU. It's just an unusual use of words: "Deep Six". Hmmm. You will seem very 'in-the-know' with a nick like that.
You should go and look at
Re:
And thank you! I'll go check that out. I have no willpower when it comes to new fandoms.

Frottage in a shower with your clothes half on sounds more messy than sexy...but that edge of desperation in the story made it very hot.
Be sure to send feedback!
The Fusion Affair
It's a pity: she has the voices down pat, and even if we don't get into Illya's head, the way Napoleon sees him is very satisfying .
As I said, too bad there's no other...

Re: The Fusion Affair
Yeah, it's the only that I know of too. Such a shame...
If you check out her site, she seems to write 1, maybe 2, stories in a fandom, and that's it. It's as if her 'muse' moves on once she's written a story for a particular fandom. Very curious. But I agree, she is a very good writer. What she lacks in output she makes up in quality.
Re: The Fusion Affair
I read one other fic from her site : "Wheat from chaff".
I never was interested in the show, but the fic was intense.
As for the others fandom, I confess that I can't imagine Sherlock Holmes in a sexual situation at all, and my image of Hornblower comes from C.S. Forrester's books (and Gregory Peck). I can't see the pretty boy I saw in the TV serie as Hornblower at all. And Pros does nothing for me either unless it's a crossover with MFU.
I'm limited that way :)

Re: The Fusion Affair
I'm still ashamed over my Pros ignorance. I *still* get Bodie and Doyle mixed up, and the ultra-gritty-seriousness of the show doesn't do much for me. But I did like the theme music!!
Re: The Fusion Affair
Same for me : glad to know I'm not alone in that boat.
I never even saw the show: we don't see much british show in French Canada.
The only one I remember from the 60s is "The Avengers". I still think Ms Peel is the coolest woman I ever saw on tv.

Re: The Fusion Affair
There's no slash in it, not even het. One might think there's a romantic interest between Steed and Ms Peel, but it's very understated, in a genteel kind of way. And when Diana Rigg left the serie, you felt there was regret for things undone.
I bought all the dvds with Diana Rigg on a 40 year old memory of Ms Peel...
Re: The Fusion Affair
So I'd love to see more. I love that flirtatious yet restrained chemistry they had going.
Re: The Fusion Affair
Can't imagine Kelly and Scotty in a slash relationship?
*pause to let boggling lessen*
I Spy was a hard sell for me at the beginning, too. I had to get over anti-Cosby-ness (the goofy guy mugging at the camera, eating Jell-O pudding image had etched itself into my brain), but it didn't take long, because I Spy is one of the slashiest shows ever made, and just a *good*, well-written, well-acted, groundbreaking show. You should give it a try, really. It's all out on DVD. And if you contact Dorinda, she'll probably give you specific recs.
Re: The Fusion Affair
But I did love the theme music. Must look out for the DVDs. Thanks for the heads up!
