Why this must be read:
I was quite pissed at myself when I realized that most of my favorite crossovers actually started with Nick of CSI instead of Tony. But I’ve been thinking of this crossover since before the month started and I decided to stay with it. It’s a crossover/fantasy/au story that has great promise. The writer’s ability to tell a story needs work, but her idea is a fun one. In a way, I’m glad this story is so far into her arc, because she seems to have started while fairly young and improved as she got older. The first stories are fairly crude.
This story is in the middle of the arc, so underneath the cut will be all the information you need to make up for the beginning stories. I found this story to be a ‘not to be missed’ because of all the ideas it gave me. There are a lot of things wrong with the story, but the ideas that are represented are fantastic. I’m asking you to look past the writer to the story. There is an overall plot to all this also. It gets a little lost along the way, but its there. I think this story is worth it because of where your mind can go with here ideas.
Hundreds of years ago dragons lived among Humans. Seeing that humans were becoming the dominant species, dragons changed their DNA so that they would be born humans. A dragon/human would remain a human their entire life, even breeding and passing along their dragon DNA unless they met their human “soul mate”. If they met their soul mate and that person was in mortal danger the dragon would change into their dragon body to save their human mate. Naturally that led to people who were dragons and didn’t know it as well as those who were dragons but never met their mate. Because there are people who will buy things like dragon claws, hides as well as unicorn horns, there dragon hunters who work to kill dragons and dissect them and sell the parts.
The people of Las Vegas CSI became part of the dragon community when Grissom changes to his true form to save Nick from danger. They wind up moving to Miami and joining the dragons of Miami. In New York, Mac is also a dragon and finds out about the Miami community. They determine that there is a dragon in D.C. – Gibbs. Tony is his mate. Gibbs becomes the alpha dragon for the DC/New York community while Mac is the beta dragon. Dragons are not humans and don’t think the same way as humans.
NOTE: there are several times in this story when I think Alex has missed out on things or could have made it flow a bit more smoothly. But for various reasons I suspect she hasn’t had a lot of training in writing. The ideas here, the overall plot are good. She shows an amount in of innovation that I’ve only seen in a few other writers.
