Fic: The Goodge Street Gambit and the Controversial Non-Holmesian Principle by definewisdom
Hello, I'm
cloudtrader and I'll be driving the van for the Sherlock fandom this month. I posted a fandom overview earlier today which can be found here. My personal tastes in Sherlock fanfic trend towards BAMF!John, Dark!Sherlock, and meet-the-family fic, but I will do my best to rec all sorts of genres this month. I hope you all enjoy the fics! Remember, authors love feedback!
Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: none (gen)
Length: 1,600ish words
Author on LJ:
definewisdom
Author Website: The author's fic journal is here (which also links to her personal journal).
Why this must be read:
I adore stories where Watson and Lestrade know something that Holmes doesn't. In this case, they know the rules to an intricate and exciting game called Mornington Crescent that traditionally uses stations on the London Underground to maneuver with (except in cases involving Luton High Street or the Nevsky Propspekt Variations, or under the rules of the Expanded Modern Edition of 1987). It's not necessary to have your copy of NF Stovold’s Mornington Crescent: Rules and Origins with you to follow the game that Watson and Lestrade play unless you are a true aficionado, because the point of the story is watching the frustration of Holmes as he tries to figure out those rules.
This is a true, laugh-out-loud funny gem of a fic that I keep returning to over and over. (And it makes me go find I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue clips on YouTube to listen to after almost every reading. Good stuff!)
