Why this must be read:
One of the best things about reading The O.C. fic is that authors tend to bring the Funny when writing Seth Cohen. This story is no different, and features a pitch-perfect Seth voice. There are numerous laugh-out-loud moments as Seth fears that Murphy's Law will strike when his high school English class studies his favorite subject, the Beat poets. Ryan is tolerantly amused when Seth fortells his approaching doom, but when disaster does strike (in the form of a pedantic, poser substitute teacher), Ryan definitely has Seth's back. The light make-out session in the school's supply closet provides a supremely satisfying ending to the story.
It's the little details that make this story so great: Seth's knowledge of Beat poets and comics lore, Summer's acidic observations as she polishes her nails in English class, and Ryan's stalwart support of Seth and his obvious affection for his adorably geeky friend. All in all, a very fun read.
