Small Packages by T. Jonesy (PG)
Fandom: STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Author on LJ: Not that I know of
Author Website: Don't think there is one.
Why this must be read:
Kirk decides to present Spock with an article of clothing for his birthday. His first mistake was buying it with McCoy in attendance, his second was betting the good Doctor that Spock would wear it to the restaurant they were visiting that evening. Spock's only mistake was getting up that morning.
When I call this a farce of a story, it's a compliment. The story is a delicious (delirious?) conglomeration of misunderstandings, doors shutting or opening at the wrong moment, awkward encounters, and lowdown McCoy cunning. The whole thing joyously spins along from disaster to disaster, and is told in a wonderfully dry style.
When he was standing in front of the door panel, his confidence abruptly faltered. Never before had an innocuous architectural element appeared so foreboding. He wished the hotel contained a more antiquated system of entry and exit. The kind with the hinges. The kind you could open slightly and then peek around before venturing forward. He shook himself. He was a Vulcan! Vulcans did not 'peek.' With that sobering thought to comfort him, he steeled himself and pressed the door release. He lowered his head and moved purposefully forward...and almost collided with Lieutenant Uhura, who was standing directly outside of his door with her hand poised over the buzzer.
"Mister Spock!"
Spock decided Vulcan should re-evaluate the unjustly maligned practice of 'peeking.'

I *know* TJonesy has a baseball TOS story in a zine, and I really hope she puts it online one day. It features the same brilliant mix of laughs and warmth, with the entire crew involved. I emailed her about this ages ago, but if more readers could needle her, all the better!
