Why this must be read:

This is a crossover story in every meaning of the word!

It was written for [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's Remix challenge. The original story was a drabble, which worked beautifully in its own right, but a successful drabble is usually one that manages to convey an idea with the minimum amount of explanation needed to make it comprehensible.

The remix expanded on the idea so all the 't's were crossed and the 'i's dotted, but still retained the wry lightheartedness of the original. It also came up with a perfect Star Trek explanation of just why the crossover occurred. There are lots of lovely touches in this piece: the outsider's view of a universe we know, the strange similarities, a clever use for Bugs Bunny. Need I say more?

Did you know that there is an actual book that is X-men/Star Trek: TNG crossover? I mean, a commerical one?

Fandom is really not as scary as commercial fiction. :)

Well, in the book, a bunch of X-men mutans get pulled into ST:NG universe just as the "Enterprise" are involved in the negotiation on a planet with it's own sudden mutant problem. And yes, I thought it sucked.

There was a TOS version as well, in comic book form. I have a suspicion that they only wrote it in order to have someone go "Dr. McCoy!" and get two responses ;)
