Golden Boy by Jungle Kitty (R)
Fandom: STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES
Pairing: Kirk / Gary Mitchell; Kirk / others; Kirk / Spock
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Invisible Planets
Why this must be read: This alternate universe tale is very different from the usual “Kirk and Spock find eternal love” stories (which I happen to be quite fond of). But it’s a compelling look at an entirely plausible background for Kirk, and how his youthful activities could come to affect his adult life profoundly.
The story invents a very interesting taboo, and explores what happens to those who break it. It’s extremely well-written, sparse and erotic in places and violent in places. And the end result is tragic, but completely believable.

Original, moving and very, very powerful. I liked the Kirk as flawed approach which a lot of writers don't see.
Thank you so much

(Anonymous) 2004-09-13 12:07 am (UTC)(link)A friend told me about this rec and I really appreciate the plug!
I recently changed my email address and I'm enjoying a spam-free life (which is why I didn't update it on my website). Could you please remove my address from the previous entry? If anyone wants to get in touch with me, just sign the guestbook on my site. I will happily respond.
Thanks again and glad to hear about people enjoying an "oldie."

Re: Golden Boy
And thanks for writing this story - I can't remember if I sent you feedback years ago when I first read it, but I really liked it, and it's one that's stuck with me for years.
