Jenn writes a long and fascinating look at what happens when Tom takes command of the ship under trying circumstances. She deftly and realistically explores the concepts of duty and honour and how much people will sacrifice for their crewmates. Terrible, horrible things happen to characters that we know and love; and it makes so much sense.

Probably my favourite Voyager fic (though I do not hesitate to recommend any of her stories). A sequel remains, alas, a work in perpetual progress.
