12:45 pm Blood and Shadows by Salome (NC-17, for violence as well as sex)
Fandom:BLAKES7
Pairing: Rape and torture involving Avon and Tarrant; Avon/Tarrant
Author on LJ: Don't know
Author Website: Don't know
Why this must be read: OK, now we're in "people who like this sort of thing, this is the thing they like" territory. (The archive it appears on has a rating system, and Blood and Shadows was rated 4-out-of-5.)

This is a to-the-hilt example of both the BUARA (Beat Up and Rape Avon) and BABYT (Bind and Bugger Young Tarrant) genres. When Servalan captures Avon and Tarrant, Tarrant is conditioned to rape a severely abused Avon. The Scorpio crew rescues Avon and--a bit later--Dayna, in possession of less than all the facts, rescues Tarrant (who by this time has suffered extremely severe and graphically described physical and sexual abuse himself). Not really my sort of thing, but I can't say that it didn't leave an impression.

As you'd expect from a slash story, all is well again after the application of advanced 30th Century combat medical techniques and Therapeutic Sex, with Orac (for those outside the B7 ambit: the super-computer, who is so advanced as to be actually portable!) combines canonical crankiness with a somewhat out-of-character role as Yenta Sue.

01:08 pm But in the Quiet by K (R)
Previously on Popslash: "Britney turned enough to kiss the corner of my mouth. She tasted like twigs and Joey."

Today on Popslash: But in the Quiet (R)

Fandom: Popslash
Pairing: Justin/Chris (Timbertrick)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] smartlikejustin
Author Website: Pop Music Problems
Why this must be read:

There are 10 pairings in *Nslash and, like in any fandom, each pairing has certain traits. When I think of Trickyfish (Chris/Lance) I think of viciously snarky and hilarious dialogue, while Timbertone (Justin/Joey) makes me think of unexpectedly, bizarrely hot sex. When I think of Timbertrick, I think of over-excitability, friendship, and [livejournal.com profile] smartlikejustin.

But in the Quiet is a perfect piece of [livejournal.com profile] smartlikejustin's Timbertrick. Here, Justin's trying desperately to rest his voice for an upcoming performance, in the face of relentless taunting and teasing from Chris. The fic stars a hyper, but understanding Chris and a Justin that I absolutely love. This Justin is self-assured and introspective and it's his air of, well, quietness and serenity that sets the tone for the story, despite the fact that it's full of funny asides and flashes of humor.

Great because the moment where Chris finally makes Justin speak always makes me catch my breath and great because it's such a good story for days like today where, if you're here at least, you're surrounded by fog and a palpable desperation at the lack of coffee in the immediate area.

Go!

Additional Information )

Wednesday on Popslash: "Janet Jackson called me this morning and said if Justin doesn't shut up already she's gonna tell the entire world that she dumped his ass because his overuse of the term 'babygirl' in bed freaked her the fuck out."

**I quoted [livejournal.com profile] jawamonkey's hilarious Living Vicariously series here last time. That site is down currently, but when it comes back up? Go. Memorize. Send nasty anonymous emails to everyone who doesn't.**

Title: A History of Star Trek: Enterprise

Why this must be read: It's hilarious. Really. It's snort-out-your-drink funny if you've seen even a few moments of the show and even funnier if you're a fan. I can't believe I didn't rec this story first ::bangs head on desk:: as it introduces the characters much better than I ever could.

It begins with a paragraph explaining each character and moves on to a script that encapsulates absolutely every cliche or bad plot twist the show uses. I adore this story with a passion that knows no bounds. Really.

_____________ by Elizabeth (no, really, that's what it's called)

Fandom: Alias
Pairing: Jack/OFC
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: Ficorama
Why this must be read:

Classic Alias fic, set around the time of the first season episode "The Coup." This story...makes me uncomfortable in all the right ways. It's an amazing glimpse into Jack Bristow's head, even though it's entirely from the narrator's POV.

"Have you been here long?" you said politely, extra politely, because he'd fucked with your routine and you didn't like it but you needed the money--you needed the car, you needed something to keep you interested, and he said,

"Not long," just as politely, his eyes glinting, and that's how you knew he'd been there for a while.

That's how you knew he was almost as good a liar as you.

Pairing: Methos/Duncan

Why this must be read: *gibbers* Because, uh--it's hot. It's so, so, so, so, so hot. Okay? Really. It makes me a little light-headed to even think about this story. I read it nearly weekly. It is just.that.good.

It is what my friend [livejournal.com profile] timian might refer to as PTP (Plot Through Porn). Or at least, character development through porn. And it is hot. Okay? Really, I can't even tell you. It makes me feel all funny inside, okay? Go read it! Send the author feedback!

Feedback=Love
