Title: We Seek Only to Answer Pairing: Ned/Chuck, but basically gen Length: 5600 Author on LJ: black_eyedgirlAuthor Website: fic tag at LJWhy this must be read: I know we're only supposed to rec one crossover per month, but considering that neither I nor anyone else will ever get another chance at it, I simply couldn't resist sharing this gem. (Also, I only discovered it in the past week.) The scientists in Eureka attempt to explain Ned's ability. This fic clashes the fairy tale logic of Ned's magic finger with a colder reality, and raises some interesting questions in the process. On top of that, we get great character voices all around, and an excellent blending of the two shows' tones. ( Excerpt )We Seek Only to Answer

Fandom: Warehouse 13/Eureka/Sneakers/,Iron Man/Percy Jackson and the Olympians/Doctor Who Length: 3554 Author on LJ: minkhollow Why this must be read:Minkhollow is a master at crossovers. In this fic you discover 4 places that Claudia never lived and 1 place she didn't go after the season 1 finale. Each AU is a perfect little world unto its self. Minkhollow also has Claudia describe The Doctor as Unfortunate Bow Tie Dude. If that doesn't make you want to read this then really, there's no hope. :) Five Places Claudia Donovan Never Called Home by minkhollow on AO3.FYI: AO3 is a little slow this holiday season due to increased traffic. Hit refresh a couple times if it crashes. That usually does the trick.

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Stark Length: 1,474 Author on LJ: kristories Why this must be read: This is hilarious: when Fargo's VR world takes its fairtytale programming a little too seriously, it's up to dashing kinght in Armani suit Nathan to rescue Princess Jack. Mix in a virtual Allison as the all-knowing guide and you have an awesome little fic that will make you giggle. It's amazing how well Eureka fits into a fairy tale paradigm. "That sounds too easy. What's in the forest?"
"Extremely large, carnivorous cats; smaller, striped, carnivorous cats and the occasional Ursus arctos horribilis," Allison says. Nathan eyes her and plans on killing Fargo, as soon as he gets out of here.
"Seriously? Lions and tigers and bears?" Once Upon a Time

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Stark Length: ~13,000 Author on LJ: serene_quillWhy this must be read: Thanks to Fargo's latest experiment--natch--Jack and Nathan get stuck to each other via a new resistant-to-all-things super glue...that has no antidote. Shenanigans ensue and the UST ratchets through the roof. Zoe is particularly awesome in this; she's wonderfully snarky. “Look, it wouldn’t be a picnic for anyone, but the two of you may have to take a really radical approach here,” Henry said, and Nathan’s confusion increased, wondering why Henry was giving Carter such a comforting look.
“Put us both in a coma?” Carter suggested dryly. Nathan actually considered it for a moment, and then scowled at his own immature reaction.
“Try getting along,” Henry replied gently. Don't forget to leave feedback for the author! Stuck on You

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Nathan Length: 6,558 Author on LJ: vixysAuthor Website: Why this must be read: Romance is always so much easier when viewed through the eyes of others. Here, we get the Jack/Nathan show as seen through several of Eureka's denizens. It's a lot of fun watching these two figure things out as other people watch--and, occasionally, with other people's thoughts on the matter weighing in. Their insecurities are universal and touching. Overall, a lovely bit of fic. A Second Opinion

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Stark Length: 6,129 Author on LJ: auntie_climatic Why this must be read: There may have never been a sexual harassment case in the history of the town, but there was a whole file cabinet reserved for Form NSP – 3710/B. NSP – 3710/B referred to cases involving what Allison tactfully called Induced Misconduct and what Jo called the old Science Made Us Do It excuse.Because OF COURSE Eureka would need a form and call sign for all the weird stuff that happens. The trip through Carter's series of NSP – 3710/B, from his first to Nathan gleefully making him fill out the form for just about everything to The Incident (Hell yes, Jack was capitalizing it) to that wonderful hug-or-die scenario with BRAD...and a few others after. Such a fun read! Science made them Do It

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Nathan Length: 3,750 Author on LJ: black_eyedgirl Why this must be read: This is Jack chasing Nathan in his bumbling, adorable way. And Nathan being a bit thick. And pretty much everyone else in town figuring out what's up before him. You know, for a man with a bazillion PhDs, Nathan's not that bright. But that's what makes this story so much fun! Should Something Strange Begin

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Stark Length: 911 Author on LJ: gin200168Why this must be read: This is ridiculously adorable and sweet, Jack and Nathan at their cutest. They're so comfortable with each other in the privacy of their own space you just want to snuggle up with them. And there's a cute scene of Zoe as a little kid that's just puppies and sunshine. A great little fic to curl up with on a lazy weekend. Morning Person

Crossover day! Yay! We had a splendiforous crash today. Title: Summer House, Shore Leave, and Sabbatical by Pru Rating: PG-13 / PG-13 / R Pairing: John/Rodney Length: 3,000-5,000 each Author on LJ: rageprufrockAuthor Website: GlitteratiWhy this must be read: A great little crossover where John and Rodney come to Eureka. Rodney, of course, is well known to his fellow (lesser) geniusi. Particularly Fargo, who is convinced Rodney's out to eat his soul. Which he very well might be. Jack and John bond over a mutual love of non-simulated sports. And while in Eureka, John and Rodney sort a few things out... The day the McKays moved into Eureka Jack got approximately a dozen phone calls from Fargo, who was hiding under a desk in his office at Global Dynamics.
"Do you know when I last saw Rodney McKay?" Fargo whispered through the telephone line. "I last saw Rodney McKay when he was threatening to kill me using a protractor during a seminar he was leading in graduate school! This was before he started to lose his hair! Can you just imagine what a safety threat he is by now?" Summer HouseShore LeaveSabbatical

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Stark Length: 2,575 Author on LJ: spikedluvWhy this must be read: Jack and Nathan get roped into appearing in the 'Men of Eureka' calendar. Which is a really wonderfully convenient excuse to dress the boys up in hot photo-taking costumes and then have them make with the sexy times. And they are really, really hot sexy times too! The Men of Eureka

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Nathan Length: 14,370 Author on LJ: dvoid_03 Why this must be read: Love. Potion. Yes yes, they did a (literal) sex pollen episode, but that didn't include Nathan jumping Jack's sexy, pollen-y bones. Obviously, someone had to rectify that terrible state of affairs. That and this story features Jack and Nathan in couple's counseling. Of course, they're officially calling it “Therapy for the Freaky Things that Happen at GD,” but we all know the truth. Howdy folks and happy end of April Fools. I'm Xe, and I'll be your EUREKA driver this month. I tend to rock the Jack/Nathan 'cause, well, the snark. It is beautiful. (And there are talking houses!) If you're unfamiliar with Eureka, I highly suggest checking it out--it's wonderful. And check out the fantastic overview that gwynevere1 wrote up! Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack/Stark Length: ~4,300 Author on LJ: celliWhy this must be read: The author's summary is genius: Some of the denizens of Global Dynamics may have engaged in some inadvertent international child smuggling, to the dismay of Jack Carter and Nathan Stark. This starts out with Nathan and Jack fighting engaging in vigorous foreplay. And then a ridiculous number of babies show up out of thin air. Naturally, Nathan and Jack have to figure out where they came from and how to return them without creating an international incident. Just another typical day at Global Dynamics. Oh, and it's not Fargo's fault. Seriously, it's not. The Trouble with Toddlers

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Mentions Jack Carter/Nathan Stark Length: One-shot Author on LJ: kristoriesAuthor Website: kristoriesWhy this must be read: "For the last time," Nathan bites out. "He is not a Zombie." Restrained on the bed Fargo moans 'braaaaaaaaaiiiiiinssss' and reaches for Nathan.I began this set of recs with blowing up the entire canon, so the only appropriate way to end it is with another apocalypse. This story is priceless! Zombies in Eureka! It could be an episode! It has the perfect mix of fantasy cliche and skientific explanation! So many lines made me laugh-out-loud, especially: Nathan stares at him like he's stupid, which, come to think of it, is Nathan's default expression where Jack is involved.and "Oh come on, Carter," Nathan says. "It's more of a guideline really. The DOD says 'bad scientist, no lab time', GD says 'but we need to finish project X and the DOD says 'okay fine, but bad scientist, remember we can take away your lab time'".Have a Happy New Year! Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Allison Blake/Nathan Stark, but no more than in canon Length: 700 words Author on LJ: jedibuttercupAuthor Website: Jedi ButtercupWhy this must be read: A wonderful character study of Allison: She knew she'd hurt and confused him in the months leading up to the wedding-that-hadn't-happened; she still wasn't sure how to explain it to him in words that didn't sound selfish and condescending, but in a strange way it had been Jack's strong, supportive nature and unwavering appreciation for her that had given her the confidence to accept Nathan's second proposal. Without his catalyzing presence, she didn't think either she or Nathan would ever have reached a place where they could have made those sorts of promises to each other again, and mean them. jedibuttercup's writing always shows such an insightful understanding of these characters. Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: As gen as a bodyswap fic can be. Length: One-shot Author on LJ: havocthecatAuthor Website: havocs_cryWARNING: Some discussion of "women's issues," if you can't deal. Why this must be read: Three-way bodyswap fic is always better than two-way AND it's totally within the realm of possibility in Eureka canon AND, if it did happen, it would happen to Jack/Allison/Nathan AND it *would* be Fargo's fault. This story is so good, it made me forget how to punctuate! Today's Not a Good Day For This

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Gen Length: 1,400 words Author on LJ: xochiquetzlAuthor Website: Account at AO3Why this must be read: I have a soft spot for fics about fictional character writing fan fiction about other characters. Since we know that Fargo is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan *in canon* and since we know he's a computer nerd, having him be a fanfic author makes perfect sense, as Jack and Jo discover when they have to investigate Fargo's G.D. computer being hacked. (Even if Fargo would be more embarrassed about that than if Jack and Jo had found actual naked pictures on his computer.) He was the person who made the "They Are the Magic" Willow/Tara banners on TWOP, wasn't he? I also did not see the identity of the hacker coming, but it does make perfect sense. If the hacker's entire knowledge of human relationships comes from fanfic, it would explain a lot. Secrets

Vidder: lidiMusical artist: Butterfly Boucher Pairing: Jack Carter/Allison Blake/Nathan Stark Vidder on LJ: lidiVidder's website: Video tag on LivejournalWhy this vid kicks ass: There are so few Eureka fanvids that I was excited when I came across it, only to discover that it's no longer there. lidi was kind enough to re-upload it when I asked, and I'm glad that she did. I liked the song choice--it works for Stark, who's not the romantic type and probably never wanted to fall in love, let alone twice. I think the vid captures the homoerotic nature of the love triangle. (Actually, I don't know why there isn't more OT3 fanwork in this fandom, but that's besides the point.) Parts I particularly liked: 1:10 - the juxtaposition of the lyrics with the image of Stark between Allison and Jack 2:30 - Stark in the car with Jack, which, without context, looks like he's upset about falling in love with Jack, too Never Leave Your Heart Alone [ working vid link]

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Allison Blake/Nathan Stark, Implied Jack Carter/Allison Blake Length: 2,172 words Author on LJ: blackmamba_esqAuthor Website: Fiction Master List on LivejournalWhy this must be read: This story is so very good on so many levels, I don't even know where to begin. I didn't realize it was a Christmas story until I was already into it (although that's why I'm making sure to rec it today), but I love the author's use of the Season. Christmas is supposed to be about family and memories, but the former is denied to Nathan while he's stuck reliving the later. I admire how blackmamba_esq uses the time-travel element as well. I like how it ties into the fractured nature of the the story-telling, just like how present experiences can make us recall memories in a non-linear way--one situation can make us remember something past which brings forth a completely separate memory, which is paralleled in the way Nathan is travelling through time. The sci-fi/fantasy element becomes a metaphor for a real-world emotion, one that is particularly strong during the holidays, which I think is the best way genre writing can be used. OK - I'm rambling. Let's just say: It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me think about past mistakes. Still

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Could be read as Jack Cater/Nathan Stark, depending on how strong the prescription is in your slash goggles Length: 610 words Author on LJ: out_thereAuthor Website: out_thereWhy this must be read: I've mentioned before how much I love the dynamic between Jack and Zoe on the series, and I love finding fanfics that capture that interaction so well! This story had me from the first lines: The trouble with having a bright, precocious teenaged daughter was that sometimes ridiculous things came out of her mouth. Yesterday morning, it had been the issue of dyeing her hair red and green ("You want to argue for red or for green?" Jack had asked, confused, and got the eye roll of parental uncoolness and a sigh, followed by, "Both. They'd do them in zig-zags, and--"). Also, I adore the twist at the end (which I'm not going to spoil for you)! Panic!

NOTE: The story itself is FRT, but, since it was part of the rounds_of_kink challenge, the default icon on that page is NWS. Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack Carter/Nathan Stark Length: One-shot Author on LJ: kristoriesAuthor Website: kristoriesWhy this must be read: For any other show, having characters stuck in a life-size video game would be crack!fic, but this is entirely plausible within the Eureka universe, which is what makes it so absolutely wonderful! The absurdity of it all just leaves me with a crazy grin on my face! Once Upon a Time

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Allison Blake/Nathan Stark Length: One-shot Author on LJ: sheepfairyAuthor Website: www.planet-fiction.net or sheepfairy_owns's Bookmarks on DeliciousWhy this must be read: Sure, this may be porn, but it's really in-character porn. I like how the author depicts the little differences in how Allison and Nathan behave when together as opposed to when they're in their public roles (especially Nathan): Nathan moans, and she smiles and shifts up against him. He's always so calm and so cool, and she likes to see him losing his composure, especially when he's losing it with her.I also like that this is porn about two adults who have a history together, whereas so much smutty fanfic is first-time!fic (which, is fine in some cases, but can become boring after the 10,000th story). Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Gen Length: One-shot Author on LJ: celliAuthor Website: Both her fic and her recs can be found in her tag listing, organized by fandom. Fic prior to 2004 is on her website. Why this must be read: Jack looked up at the sign hanging over the stage in the gym: Welcome to the Annual Tesla High Father-Daughter Career Extravaganza and Gala!
"Zoe, have you been lying to me for my own good again?"Aw, I love the dynamic between Jack and Zoe on the show, and this adorable fic captures it perfectly! My favorite bit: "I'll have you know law enforcement is a demanding and rewarding career, and not only that, there's a lot of public interest in it. I mean, Law & Order!"
"Yes, because that attracts the interest of teenage girls everywhere."Poor Jack doesn't understand teenage girls very well, but he *tries*. I'm the Sheriff, Ask Me How

Fandom: EUREKA Pairing: Jack Carter/Nathan Stark Length: 5,508 words Author on LJ: clarkoholicAuthor Website: Account at Archive of Our Own Why this must be read: Jack is caught in a mutant tornado, which makes him rapidly deteriorate. The only solution Global Dynamics can suggest is to put him in a cryogenic freeze until an antidote is found. A cure is eventually discovered--forty-seven years later. Jack, however, isn't the only one to find himself unexpectedly in the future: Nathan rematerialized five years earlier. I like the parallels between Jack and Nathan in this fanfic. I think clarkoholic has created the rare situation where Jack/Nathan is actually possible, since they are literally the only ones who can understand what the other is going through and empathize with each other. This story has a bittersweet tone, with just the right amount of hope at the end. Ice and Air
