Why this must be read:Another great Rosette/Chrono story by Vitani Fyrewolf. The most compelling thing about the Rosette/Chrono pairing is the way their relationship works. While Rosette is definitely the one "in charge" it's clear that Chrono is someone she relies on for stability and support. "Talk in Tongues" studies the relationship between Rosette and Chrono, and the way they communicate. This story is an excellent character study of both Chrono and Rosette.

Why this must be read: There simply aren't enough manga-epilog stories out there that deal with all the little details of the ending. This story is both a well told and bittersweet reunion story and supernatural mystery. The writer lists all the clues and details that the members of the Magdalen Order can't explain surrounding Rosette's death, but doesn't offer the reader any answers, only more questions.

Why this must be read: Slash is very rare in this fandom as I mentioned in the overview. The main slash pairing, Aion/Chrono, may be slightly problematic for some, since Aion and Chrono are brothers, but the dynamic between them in both manga and anime canon is intriguing, and has a lot of possibility. This manga-verse story was written for 1sentence and despite the constraints of the format, is an excellent character/relationship study between Chrono and Aion, before, during and after the events of the manga.

Why this must be read: In this character study, Chrono thinks about his own past, and on his relationship with Rosette--another common theme that shows up in the fandom. The repeated phrase "this is the truth," at the beginning of each vignette highlights each aspect of their history together, and how Chrono's perception of Rosette doesn't so much as change as evolve.

Why this must be read: The rarest of all rare pairings in the fandom is that of Kate/Ewan Remington. It's also the one most difficult to do well, given the natural obstacles of Kate being a nun, and Remington being a minister and also her subordinate. Layhee does a good job here of illustrating the UST between these two characters, and why the tension is unlikely to be resolved any time in the near future. The characterization in this story is excellent, and Layhee's Kate and Ewan are both very true to canon.

Why this must be read: One of the most common story-types in this fandom (next to "Rosette and Chrono DON'T DIE DAMMIT!" stories) are "missing scene" stories taking place during, just before, or just after the epilog. Sacred is an "epilog" fic set in the manga-verse, taking place shortly after Rosette and Chrono are reunited. This is mostly a hurt/comfort sort of story, as Chrono and Rosette talk, and Rosette fusses over Chrono's injuries, and Chrono fusses over Rosette. The characterization is excellent, and the hurt to comfort ratio is just about perfect.

Why this must be read: This story is a one shot character study taking place an uncertain amount of time after the anime epilog. Remington, homeless and suffering from a depression that has lasted decades, broods about his past, and everything--and everyone--he's lost. Aion turns up to either point and laugh, or prod Remington into taking some sort of action. This story has some excellent characterization, not only of Remington, but also of Aion, who is perfectly enigmatic--we know he's up to something, but we really can't say what.
