Why this must be read: I would be remiss if I didn't include some hateship, y/y? Anyway, "Straightjacket" and its sequel "Shellshock" happen after the miniseries ends, and Cain returns for Zero in the tin suit. There are some great memories from the both of them, fleshing out their characters in little ways. Zero lives his life like he's waiting for the inevitable to happen, like he always has - until Cain.

Why this must be read: More Glitch-centric! Great Glitch-voice, and the friendshippy Cain-Glitch interaction is great.

Fandom: TIN MAN
Pairing: Az/Cain
Length: ~5500 words
Warnings: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] andrealyn
Author Website:
Why this must be read: Because it takes a cliche (needing an escort to a ball) and makes it so much more than that: a story about two people who have been prisoners, who understand each other and maybe even need each other, and their journeys toward freedom.

Fandom: TIN MAN
Pairing: Cain/DG
Length: ~2800 words
Warnings: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lizzelda
Author Website:
Why this must be read: An excellent Cain-centric story, set post-miniseries. Cain's voice is perfect, the dynamic and dialogue between Cain and DG is spot-on, and most of all it's such a good fleshing-out of his character and history, including his relationship with Adora. There seriously aren't enough words for how much I like this story.

17th-Sep-2009 12:50 am "And No Birds Sing" by kseda (PG13)
Fandom: TIN MAN
Pairing: Ambrose/Lavender Eyes
Length: ~1500 words
Warnings: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kseda
Author Website:
Why this must be read: A pre-series narrative, this short story chronicles the times just before Azkadellia's coup: fraught with tension and waiting, Ambrose and the Queen can only trust each other. The prose is spare and elegant; it's short but packs an emotional punch.

Why this must be read: I'm all about the dark post-miniseries fics (as I'm sure you've already figured out). And all about the Az. And when you combine them ... well, I'm all yours. As it happens, "To Light She Be Shown" is the best of both worlds, a dark look at the Az that was hinted at during the miniseries (remember the conversation with herself by the lake?) with a great dysfunctional Az/Zero component and a re-interpretation of the prophecy about the two princesses.

11th-Sep-2009 01:57 pm "handfasting with the sky" by stonecraft (PG13)
Fandom: TIN MAN
Pairing: none; gen
Length: ~1400 words
Warnings: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] stonecraft
Author Website:
Why this must be read: This story traces out a very likely scenario that could happen after the end of the miniseries - that even though the Witch is gone, the people of the O.Z. would want proof, or at least insurance, before letting a member of that family ascend to the throne again. Here, they call for Azkadellia's execution. Despite this the story manages to balance sadness with hope very well.

Why this must be read: I rarely venture on to FFNet, but I made an exception for Tin Man. I'm glad I did, because this fic makes it all worth it. This is Az's journey from her initial possession by the Witch all the way to the end of the miniseries. It's a wonderful look at what it means to be a prisoner, and eventually a stranger, in your own body, in the momentous times and the spaces in between.

7th-Sep-2009 06:04 pm "How to Negotiate a Treaty with the Eastern Guild" by greenspine (NC17)
Fandom: TIN MAN
Pairing: Cain/Glitch
Length: ~2140 words
Warnings: aphrodisiacs leading to sex
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] greenspine
Author Website:
Why this must be read: It's sweet, funny, and hot - and best of all, it features the Munchkins Eastern Guild and their entertaining ways, along with cultural misunderstanding and a healthy dose of the "we have to pretend we're married" cliche. I appreciate that it 'widens' the O.Z. a little too, exploring one of the various cultures it contains.

Length: 3026 words

Why this must be read: As Azkadellia rises to power, Ambrose is enlisted by the Queen to begin taking the royal family out of collective memory, and in the process becomes the keeper of all the kingdom's stories. A wonderful look at Ambrose before he became a headcase and the Queen as she slowly loses both her daughters.

Hi! I'm [livejournal.com profile] paperflowered and I'll be driving a Small Fandom van this month for the wonderful Syfy miniseries Tin Man. I have not finished a fandom overview yet (I had forgotten all about my offer to do Tin Man recs), but hopefully it will be finished in just a few days. For now, let's start with the recs!

Fandom: TIN MAN
Pairing: none; gen
Length: ~900 words
Warnings: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tvashti
Author Website:
Why this must be read: It's a short piece, which I wouldn't usually recommend, but despite a few spelling errors, I really love it. The plot of the story is Cain observing Azkadellia after the miniseries ends, and I love how the focus is on the aftermath, how Az's possession by the Witch has affected her, left her different. There are dark undertones, too, which is a welcome contrast to how the miniseries ended.
