Fandom: White Collar Pairing: Neal Caffrey/Sara Ellis Length: 3:05 Vidder’s Website: Ssplishable’s YouTube Channel Why this must be seen:This vid uses footage culled from Chuck, White Collar (and a few other things I don’t recognize) to create a video-based AU origin story of a spy/assassin Neal Caffrey who struggles to maintain his integrity and keep the woman he loves safe in his dangerous, underground world. I think? IDK – watch it, it’s awesome.

Fandom: RPF: THE X-FILES (kind of) Pairing: truthfully, none Length: 1:34 Vidder on LJ: n/a Vidder's Website: http://www.exeterstreet.net/Why this must be watched: I couldn't bring myself to post a "snogger" vid. But I did find this brilliant mock-up by Lyle posted on You.tube. It's a marketing video for two imaginary episodes of A&E's Biography, featuring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Now I really want to see those non-existent episodes. Not safe for work, however. The concept: It's X-Files week on A&E's Biography channel in cross-channel promotion for the worldwide theatrical release of THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully's alter egos David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, media darlings of the 1990s, feature prominently in two spots. Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Vidder: Elliepdowd Musical artist: Theme song from "Simon & Simon" Pairing: Gen - Sam and Dean Vidder on LJ: ee_p_deeVidder's website: Ellie's Supernatural Videos; Ellie's Youtube ChannelWhy this vid kicks ass: So, maybe many of the current Supernatural fans aren't quite old enough to remember the hit 1980s TV detective show, "Simon & Simon", about two brothers who are very different from one another. For those of us who do remember, there's this lovely vid that is as much a tribute to the original series (and the challenges of working with your brother) as it is to the Winchesters. For those who aren't familiar with the original series, I suggest clicking on the LJ entry and scrolling to the bottom to watch a video of the original series credits--that will give you an idea of exactly how much thought went into this vid, as the vidder recreated (as closely as possible) many of the scenes from the S&S credits. It's just a delight to watch, and honestly, "Simon & Simon" had one of the best theme songs on TV. Give it a listen - it might be more familiar than you think! Vidder: sweetevangeline Musical artist: Eva Cassidy Pairing: Cal/Gillian Vidder on LJ: not_as_weVidder's website: sweetevangeline's Channel on YouTubeWhy this vid kicks ass: This AU vid (warning for implied character death) tells a moving story of love found and lost. The editing and black and white footage works to show a memory of happier times. Fields of Gold

Vidder: Karli Meaghan Musical artist: Evanescence Pairing: Voldemort/Bellatrix Vidder on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Vidder's website: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Why this vid kicks ass:The way that this vidder was able to manip Voldemort and Bellatrix together in this piece is very impressive, and her use of subtitles really adds to the storytelling aspect of it all. Great job all around, this is a video that you do not want to miss. Where Will You Go?

Vidder: thedothatgirl Musical artist: The Pussycat Dolls Pairing: Sugar Kane/Osgood Fielding III, Daphne/Osgood Fielding III Vidder on LJ: thedothatgirlVidder's website: Buffy and Angel ArtWhy this vid kicks ass: I never realised that I had a burning desire to watch Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe going head-to-head in a fight over their man until I saw this songvid; but now that I have, thanks to the glorious constructed reality thedothatgirl has created, I can't imagine a world in which it isn't so. Also, there's dancing and maracas. It just doesn't get any better than that! Don't Cha

Vidder: Barkley Musical artist: Olivia Newton-John/Electric Light Orchestra Pairing: None Vidder on LJ: barkleyVidder's website: Barkley's VidsWhy this vid kicks ass: In fandom there's a grand tradition of people putting things together that just should not work, and yet, beyond all sense, somehow they not only work, they are glorious. For example, this songvid's premise is: Stargate: Atlantis + Xanadu = rollerdancing space explorers. Oh, yeah... *waves hands in awe* That's what I call absurd perfection! Xanadu (scroll down)

Vidder: abstractvmilk Musical artist: A Fine Frenzy Pairing: Ten/Rose; Ten II/Rose Vidder on LJ: Unknown Vidder's website: Vidder's Channel on Youtube Why this vid kicks ass: This vid is in the tradition of the story-telling genre, so it seems appropriate to rec here. *grin* In the words of the vidder: After Bad Wolf Bay, Rose return(s) home with a man she barely (knows). As time passes the Doctor(Human) shows Rose how to fall in love again.I really think that this is a vid worth watching because it tells the intended story quite well and the editing is very effective in conveying the emotion of the song. It is simply a lovely vid that blends a variety of sources(not all clips are from Doctor Who) into a sweet Doctor Who story. Near to You(A Fine Frenzy) by abstractvmilk

Title: Between the Bars by kiki-miserychic Musical artist: Chris Garneau Pairing: Merlin/Arthur Length: 2:30 minutes Author on LJ: kiki_miserychicAuthor Website: vid tagWhy this must be watched: I've decided to rec a songvid for crossover day, for one simple reason: it's awesome. It takes the Arthurian myth from so many different sources, and weaves it into something that shines new light not only on Prince Arthur and Merlin in Merlin, but on why this story has endured for so long and still contains so much power. Vidder: SandraInTheSun Musical artist: David Holmes Pairing: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard Vidder on LJ: sandrainthesunVidder's website: Vid TagWhy this vid kicks ass: I love crime capers; they are just made of awesome -- the snark, the cunning plans, the comedy arising out of things going wrong, the twist ending. What's not to love? This songvid has all of that... but wait! There's more! You see, this particular crime caper is an AU of Stargate Atlantis, and stars John Sheppard, Rodney McKay and Laura Cadman, transplanted to Vegas a la Ocean's Eleven. "Petty Theft" has sharp, clever editing, John and Rodney having sex, sleazy paisley shirts, the team being competent, and the most kick ass use of crime-caper music. *happy sigh* *goes to re-watch* Permanent download link hosted by Kyrieane: here sandrainthesun's splashpage for this vid: Petty Theft

Vidder: Ferd Musical artist: Shakespeare's Sister Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Lois Lane, Batman/Catwoman Vidder on LJ: ferdalumpVidder's website: Ferdalump on YouTubeWhy this vid kicks ass: This songvid is technically the second of a matching pair, but I think it stands alone just fine (the other is available at the same splash page linked below, if you're interested). What I love about "Stay" is the way it melds the three different sources to create a love triangle between characters who share a universe (Batman/Superman) but never appear in the same show! This vid beautifully demonstrates just how much illusion there is in the art of editing. And also? That love triangles which include Catwoman are made of win. Stay

Vidder: Dani C. Musical artist: Enya Pairing: House/Wilson Vidder on LJ: mystictwilightVidder's website: MysticTwilight on YouTubeWhy this vid kicks ass: This is such a clever piece of work, using the footage from Dead Poets Society to give a gorgeous, angsty twist to Wilson's backstory. To say more is to spoil this. Just... wow! What a great piece of alternate canon construction. If We Shadows Have Offended

Vidder: Starrylizard Musical artist: Monty Norman, John Barry, David Arnold, Nicholas Dodd Pairing: Various Vidder on LJ: starrylizardVidder's website: Starrylizard's fannish stuffWhy this vid kicks ass: My previous rec was all about looking at the James Bond canon in a new light, whereas this one is about creating an expectation of Bond canon without actually using any Bond footage. I love the clever play of generic expectation and intertextuality in this: the stupid gadgets; the kick-ass action; the womanising; the hokey bad guys; the explosions; the smirky, deadly James Bondness of JFlan, which is weirdly perfect; and the way Starrylizard has edited it all to the Bond theme. *happy sigh* Apart from all of that, there's just the right whiff of naffness to 'Atlantis Royale,' and I don't know how Starrylizard managed it, but it makes this so perfectly, hilariously Bond. Vidder: Mike Dow & Ari Eisner (Smacky Productions) Musical artist: Usher, Fat Boy Slim, Beyonce, The Romantics Pairing: Various Vidder on LJ: Unknown Vidder's website: smacky_prodWhy this vid kicks ass: OMG, an hour and a half at the dentist. Even this gloriously cracky vid cannot currently penetrate the numb fog enough to inspire me to write more than a few sentences. Watch it. It's funny. It has Charlton Heston being emo. 10 Things I Hate About Commandments

Vidder: Tom (the email address on the vid isn't valid) Musical artist: Unknown Pairing: None Vidder on LJ: Unknown Vidder's website: Unknown Why this vid kicks ass: So, zombies. I think many stories would be improved with the addition of zombies (also killer robots, but that's a whole other topic). I present this vid as evidence supporting my zombie thesis, as I think it makes a good case for zombies not only in West Side Story, but in Romeo and Juliet. *nods decisively* Zombies, people! Why are you still here? West Side Story versión Zombie

Vidder: Chris Rule and Nick Eckert Musical artist: Caine Davidson; Richard and Robert Sherman Pairing: None Vidder on LJ: Unknown Vidder's website: moviemkerWhy this vid kicks ass: I have a gleeful love for songvids that are alternate movie trailers -- it's amazing how much difference the style of editing and a change of music makes! "Scary Mary" is the first one of these remixes I saw, and it's still one of my favourites. Brrrr. Julie Andrews is so unbelievably creepy in this. Scary Mary Poppins

Vidder: suzvoyMusical artist: Thomas Newman Pairing: McKay/Sheppard Vidder's website: n/a Why this vid kicks ass: It's one of the coolest songvids I've seen in a while. It uses not only clips from SGA, but also from the movies Farewell to Harry (with Joe Flanigan) and Century Hotel (with David Hewlett) and the way suzvoy puts everything together is just amazing. So beautiful. The Writer (wmv)
