Fandom: JAMES BOND SKYFALL/ PERSON OF INTEREST
Pairing: Bond/Q, Finch & Reese
Length: 36k
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: Two MI6 operatives are killed in New York. Apparently collateral damage. Bond takes a detour on his way home from a case in Mexico to take a deeper look, Q in tow. Not so surprisingly, the deeper look turns up some very interesting connections - and a special CIA unit with a supernatural edge...
I was initially reluctant to read this fic, mostly because I ship the hell out of M/Bond (my absolute het OTP), but I have to admit I love this story. It is part of a wider series based in the Skyfall fandom but it can be read entirely on its own. The primary focus is on Bond/Q as they are the main characters in the story arc, but there are plenty of lovely Finch Reese interactions. Be warned though it is not only a crossover it also has supernatural elements.

“You just bring me in? As a favor to the CIA?”
He shrugged.
“Too bad I’m going to disappoint you,” Reese stated easily.
Bond sighed. It would have surprised him if matters had gone smoothly.
Oh well.
He had tried.

Why this must be read: I link you to a fic where Peggy Carter is Dench!M's predecessor, and you need a reason to read it?

But seriously, this is an excellent, memorable character study of three women who pave their own inimitable ways in a boys' club and kick a lot of ass (literal and otherwise) along the way.

Do you know how girls like us become women like Carter? )

Pairing: James Bond/Q
Length: 2,826
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: spoilers for the movie, angst

Summary: Its MI6 protocol that every agent must undergo separation from his or her daemon. Luckily James and Shylah never have been that close.

Why this must be read: I know I rec'd this author yesterday, but this fic is simply too great to pass up. The plot focuses on James' angst, covering everything from outside events to his struggle to accept himself--shown in an incredibly moving way by his relationship with his daemon. Each character gets at least one scene, and they all simply jump off the page with characterization and engaging drama. It's hard to say much without giving it away, but this fic basically covers the movie plotline with daemons, including some additional scenes.

I have to add that even though Q isn't in this fic much, I absolutely loved what was done with him and his relationship with his daemon. Great interaction and meaning abound.

Note: This is another first in a series, but I'm only reccing this as a one-shot. It works perfectly well as a stand-alone and I found the sequels to be lacking compared to this one. However, if you're interested, here's the series on AO3: whatever our souls are made of.

Title: Down Time
Fandom: Burn Notice(/Casino Royale)
Pairing: Michael/Bond, references to Michael/Fiona
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mayatawi
Author Website: Her LJ
Why this must be read: Although technically this is a crossover, it's mostly a caper fic. It's set pre-series and in the first 10 minutes or so of Casino Royale. And if you didn't know in advance who the other guy was, or had never heard of James Bond, it wouldn't matter. This is brilliant.

Warnings for violence and a bit of dubcon.

Fandom: GOOD OMENS/JAMES BOND
Pairing: James Bond/Crowley
Length: substantial one-shot

Why this must be read:

It's painful to pick just one fic for Crossover Day, because GO is such a Little Black Dress for crossing over: not only do you have the humor/crackfic aspect for any modern-day fandom, or the natural mutual-interest factor for any fandom dealing with religious satire, but you also have immortal characters that make any historical fandom fair game. I choose this one, though, because it's time that all GO's allusions to the Cold War, and secret agents having clandestine meetings in St James' Park and the like get their moment in the sun. And this one brings all those links out so beautifully - the version of Bond in question (the point of view character) is mostly Daniel Craig's longing-ridden one, and one particular incident, with one particular supernatural homoerotic encounter with his one true match, will haunt him forever.

Title: The League Extraordinaire
Fandom: The Man From UNCLE, James Bond, the Avengers, Our Man Flint, The Girl from UNCLE, Get Smart, Mission: Impossible, Modesty Blaise, I Spy, Savage, The Prisoner, Sherlock Holmes, Fu Manchu and Matt Helm (yes, all of them, seriously! I'm not going to tag all the fandoms because they won't all fit.)
Pairing: Emma Peel/John Steed, but no more than what you see on the show
Length: epic
Author: DarkMark
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Dark Mark's Fanfiction.net Page
Why this must be read:

This is basically the crossover spy adventure of truly epic proportions. I'm a sucker for intertextual references, but this story is the icing on the cake. I didn't even realize that it was possible to write so many characters so well, but DarkMark catches each of their voices perfectly while plotting a complex adventure with an old school villain worthy of our heroes' time. If you like old school spy shows and an author who captures the zeitgeist of the 60's, you simply must read The League Extraordinaire.

21st-Dec-2007 10:10 am Songvid Oddities: Joe Flanigan Multi-fandom - Atlantis Royale
Vidder: Starrylizard
Musical artist: Monty Norman, John Barry, David Arnold, Nicholas Dodd
Pairing: Various
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] starrylizard
Vidder's website: Starrylizard's fannish stuff
Why this vid kicks ass: My previous rec was all about looking at the James Bond canon in a new light, whereas this one is about creating an expectation of Bond canon without actually using any Bond footage. I love the clever play of generic expectation and intertextuality in this: the stupid gadgets; the kick-ass action; the womanising; the hokey bad guys; the explosions; the smirky, deadly James Bondness of JFlan, which is weirdly perfect; and the way Starrylizard has edited it all to the Bond theme. *happy sigh*

Apart from all of that, there's just the right whiff of naffness to 'Atlantis Royale,' and I don't know how Starrylizard managed it, but it makes this so perfectly, hilariously Bond.

20th-Dec-2007 11:15 am Songvid Oddities: James Bond - Holy Egoism of Genius
Vidder: Permetaform
Musical artist: Art of Noise, featuring John Hurt
Pairing: None
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] permetaform
Vidder's website: PerMetaForm
Why this vid kicks ass: Technically, this isn't a multi-fandom songvid, in that all the source footage comes from the James Bond movies. But given the nature of James Bond movies, I find it boggling, and somewhat humbling, that anyone has managed to make a songvid this beautiful and insightful out of it. See, Permetaform takes what is an almost-impossible song to vid, and then uses all those impossible elements to highlight just how totally improbable and exciting and cinematic James Bond really is. God, I love this songvid. It's just so good.

Go, go, go: click on the link.

ETA: The link below now goes directly to the songvid's announcement page, which does seem to work. Sorry for the inconvenience.
