31st-Aug-2011 01:03 pm Some Things Donald Doesn't Have to Say by Chlare (Rating: PG-13)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: 481 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] chlare
Author's website: An extensive tag list on the right side of her journal will take you to her fics. She also posts directly on our communities.

Why this fic must be read: It's short, the tragedies that brought it about are not sweet, but it's real. [livejournal.com profile] chlare, who mods two Strachey communities and organizes our get-togethers at [livejournal.com profile] tim_don_a_thon, wrote this for our most recent 'thon in which we speculated as to the origin of Donald and Timothy's tattoos and scars. We were given license to add any we liked, and the ones [livejournal.com profile] chlare added made perfect sense for the damaged soul who is Donald Strachey.

Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan (bonus appearance by Bub Bailey)
Length: 1,700 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] purna
Author's website: None of which I'm aware.

Why this story must be read: Timothy Callahan is a gentleman in every sense of the word. He prefers to employ brains as opposed to brawn, and his ability to reason with the unreasonable is why he's Sen. Glassman's right-hand man. But even Timothy has his limits. This story was written for a "picfic" challenge on [livejournal.com profile] nick_n_nora. The picture that inspired the story is at the end of the piece.

29th-Aug-2011 01:34 pm Child's Play by lil_1337 (Rating: PG-13)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: 2,650 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lil_1337
Author's website: None, but a list of fanfic tags can be found on the left column of Lil's journal.

Why this fic must be read: You need to read this because it's what good bookverse fic is all about. Donald and Timothy are in a mature, settled relationship but what they have together is anything but staid and boring — especially when little Erica comes for a visit. This story is fun, insightful and it reads like Richard Stevenson wrote it himself.

[livejournal.com profile] lil_1337 wrote this for the ninth edition of [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest.

Length: 3,400
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] kylielee1000

Why this story must be read: A tired Donald is a fun Donald, indeed. He's been working nonstop on a case and arrives home in the middle of the night, punchy with fatigue. You'd think he'd go straight to bed, right? Well, not smelling like that, he isn't, insists an exasperated Timmy. This hilarious, sexy story was written for the "exhaustion" challenge on [livejournal.com profile] nick_n_nora in 2007.

26th-Aug-2011 08:57 pm Like Water, Like Breath, Like Rain by Candy Apple (Rating: NC-17)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: 116,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] candyjbshsc
Author’s website/masterlist: squidge

Why this must be read:  Ever wish you could read a juicy, novel-length story about the movieverse characters you know and love?  This may just be the fanfic you've been searching for.  Angst and H/C abound in this tale of a brutal crime and its aftermath.  Though the writer deals with difficult subject matter some readers may find unsettling (see author's warning) she provides a first-rate, multi-dimensional plot interlaced with plenty of Don/Tim moments both tender and hot.  These guys can get through anything as long as they have each other to lean on, and Candy gives us a meaty drama that underscores the point.

Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: 900 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] blackbird_song
Author's website: N/A

Why this must be read: That old line about good things coming in small packages was never more true. Falling somewhere between a steam-of-consciousness narrative and a prose poem, this lovely and lyrical, beautifully written and touchingly whimsical little piece of introspection packs a big punch. This may be schmoop, but it's schmoop like you've never read before....

An excerpt:

He never particularly thought about the gleam of sex sweat as it limned Timmy's Greek-god form, or the way it plastered down the chest hair he loved to comb with his fingers when he awoke in the morning. He definitely didn't forsake all other things in life to eat, drink, breathe, sink and weld himself into Timmy, body and soul. Not at all. Don Strachey never did that sort of thing. Not more than every chance he could get, anyway.

Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: 1,800 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond
Author's website: None of which I'm aware.
Why this story must be read: Timmy in charge is a delight to behold, and [livejournal.com profile] cobweb_diamond shows us exactly why. In five short but progressive pieces, this story begins at a chance meeting and then gives us a peek inside forever, with Timothy leading the way. The story was written for the "Five Things" challenge at [livejournal.com profile] nick_n_nora in 2007.

Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES

Vidder on LJ: I'm not sure sure if the vidder is on livejournal.
Vidder's website: feanaro2712's YouTube channel
Why this video must be seen: This is a very short video, only 43 seconds, but in that 43 seconds, feanaro2712 has captured some of the best moments in the films. The vidder uses flashy and fun special effects, but avoids the tendency to overuse them. If I were given less than a minute to visually sum up Donald Strachey Mysteries, I'd use this video.

24th-Aug-2011 12:03 am Transistor by Storyfan (Rating: PG-13)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: 3500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] storyfan
Author's Website:  none, but links to her stories can be found on the right-hand sidebar of her journal

Why this must be read:  Storyfan's StracheyFic is uniformly engaging, no matter which universe she's writing at any given time.  However, she does have an unequaled flair for capturing the flavor and cadence of Donald's bookvoice as well as reproducing the affectionate-yet-decidedly-spirited snark that flows between our bookverse boys.  In this story in particular, we get a generous sampling of all the goodies that make bookverse an exceptional world to play in -- the grumphing and snarking, the ever-present sexual undercurrent and the humor, and above all else, the enduring love and devotion that Don and Tim share!

22nd-Aug-2011 12:33 pm Modus Operandi by Bronwynferchdai (Rating: R)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: About 12,000 words in four parts
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bronwynferchdai
Author's website: none of which I'm aware, but here's her fic masterlist

Why this fic must be read: I'd advise a careful reading of all Bronwyn's fics. But this one — this one is an orgy of hurt/comfort, terrifying, painful and real. Bronwyn is a master at building mood and getting the reader right into the action. My heart was pounding the entire time I read this thriller, and believe me, it didn't take long!

18th-Aug-2011 12:49 pm Some Things are Better Said by Aeneus (Rating: R)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Word count: About 1,800
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] laeta
Author Website: None of which I'm aware.

Why this must be read: The Strachey Mysteries have two canons — book and movie. As is shown in the fandom overview, the characters are very different from one universe to the other. Fic writers usually choose one or the other universe in which to write, but Aeneus has brilliantly turned book!Donald into movie!Donald, all in the course of one heartbreaking story. This beautiful, ultimately uplifting piece was written for [livejournal.com profile] nick_n_nora's "monogamy" challenge in 2007.

14th-Aug-2011 06:17 am The Virtues Series by Nyteflyer (rating: R and NC-17)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: Series of 7 stories, about 50K altogether
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nyteflyer
Author Website: All Nyte's stories are listed here

Why this must be read: The fandom's movie universe doesn't give us much insight into how Donald and Timothy met, so fic writers have taken it upon themselves to give the guys some backstory. [livejournal.com profile] nyteflyer accepted the challenge and cleverly took her themes from the seven virtues — hope, fortitude, charity, prudence, temperance, justice and faith.

These stories are all told from Don's first-person point of view. We get a good look inside Donald's head, and we learn why he trusts no one, even a man like Timothy Callahan. As the stories progress, Donald learns to accept what Timothy has to offer and comes to realize his own self-worth and the value of true and lasting love.

Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: About 1,400 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pollitt
Author's website: None of which I'm aware.
Why this story must be read: Sometimes love isn't declared over dinner at an expensive restaurant or during a moonlight stroll on the beach. Sometimes it happens in a far more ordinary place, but it's a place you'll remember for the rest of your life. This lovely story was written in 2007 for a "first time" challenge on [livejournal.com profile] nick_n_nora. I won't offer an excerpt because the story is short and sweet, and I don't want to spoil anything.

3rd-Aug-2011 02:14 pm Beautiful by Candy (Rating: R)
What ho, fangirls and fanboys! I'm Storyfan, and I'll be taking the wheel this month in honor of Donald Strachey Mysteries. My dear friend [livejournal.com profile] nyteflyer will provide a pimp for this marvelous fandom, but I thought I'd get the engine started with a story by our fandom's most prolific writer — and one of my favorites!

Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES — movie!verse
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: About 3,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] candyjbshsc
Author's website and masterlist: On Squidge

Why this must be read: Anything Candy writes is worth a close read. She's got characterization down pat, and she puts our boys through the wringer but brings them out of it, stronger and better for the experience. In this story, a battered and bruised Donald meets Timothy for the first time.
