Author Website: AO3Why this must be read: Normally I hate first person stories but this one is just so artistically done that I couldn't help but fall in love. Set after Sherlock finds out that Joan is no longer employed by his father but before he makes her his offer
Make It Easy, Say I Never Mattered shows how Sherlock figured out just why Joan was staying. I love the Sherlock voice in this because it captures both his need for Joan, as a friend, and his want to not need anyone. The other thing that I love about this is the undercurrent of what Joan is feeling. You can tell from the language that something is up with Joan but the author lets people come to their own conclusions on that instead of underestimating us and flat out saying it.
The week that he would later refer to as "the week from hell," and that she would later refer to as "the week Sherlock was suspiciously well-behaved and looked constipated when he thought she wasn't looking" started like this:Make It Easy, Say I Never Mattered
