Why this must be read: You know those fics that make you think the writers are writing fic? This is one of them. It is short and sweet but feels like it could have come from canon. I love the idea that sometimes Sherlock needs to sleep next to someone and Joan's easy acceptance and 'no funny business' comments are perfect. This is one of my go to fics for when I am having a bad day because it is that fluffy and perfect. Plus the authors use of the 'Platonic soulmates' tag makes me squeal with joy every time I see it.

Also did I miss the Fanvid rec formatting post? I was looking out for it but I never saw one.

26th-Sep-2013 07:00 pm The Case of the Chimerical Chelonian by: Siria (Rated: G)
Don't forget Elementary is back tonight! :D

Fandom: ELEMENTARY
Pairing: Joan Watson, Sherlock Holmes, Clyde
Length: 1096
Author on LJ: I'm not sure
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: This one has one of my favorite bits from Elementary ever which is Sherlock waking Joan up and her being less then impressed with what he has been doing while she was sleeping. In this one Sherlock tries to use Clyde to help on a case and it goes less then well. This is one of my go to fics when I need a laugh because it is so funny and in character I love it.

Fandom: ELEMENTARY
Pairing: Sherlock Homles/Joan Watson
Length: about 26k
Author on LJ: I'm not sure?

Why this must be read: This is not your typical married for a case fic but it does fall in that trope. This one see Holmes and Watson having to pretend to be married in order to stop a child adoption scam. I love it because not only do we get to see our favorite consulting detectives try to suburbia but they're actually kind of good at it in their own way. The case is engaging and the home interactions are to. I especially love all the touches about how Sherlock and Joan act like a couple even when they aren't trying to.

22nd-Sep-2013 04:10 am Make It Easy, Say I Never Mattered by: (Rated: PG)
Fandom: ELEMENTARY
Pairing: GEN Sherlock Holmes & Joan Watson
Length: About 3K
Author on LJ: I'm not sure
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: Normally I hate first person stories but this one is just so artistically done that I couldn't help but fall in love. Set after Sherlock finds out that Joan is no longer employed by his father but before he makes her his offer Make It Easy, Say I Never Mattered shows how Sherlock figured out just why Joan was staying. I love the Sherlock voice in this because it captures both his need for Joan, as a friend, and his want to not need anyone. The other thing that I love about this is the undercurrent of what Joan is feeling. You can tell from the language that something is up with Joan but the author lets people come to their own conclusions on that instead of underestimating us and flat out saying it.

The week that he would later refer to as "the week from hell," and that she would later refer to as "the week Sherlock was suspiciously well-behaved and looked constipated when he thought she wasn't looking" started like this:

Why this must be read: One of my favorite parts in Elementary is when Sherlock tells Joan that his job has its costs and I love this fic because it shows that yes it does have it's costs. Set after "The Deductionist" this fic explores what it must have been like for Joan to walk into an operating room, her former domain, and see what had been done. Another thing I love about this fic is that the author really understands the heart of the show which is not only Sherlock and Joan's relationship but also their willingness to talk to each other but still keep a few things back. Overall this is a great little snapshot that I could see happening in their kitchen from the tea to them watching Clyde with his lettuce.

15th-Sep-2013 02:06 am Take It Too Far by: kittu9 (PG to be safe)
Fandom: ELEMENTARY/PACIFIC RIM
Pairing: Gen
Length: about 2000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kittu9
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: I actually couldn't decide if I should rec this one or not because while it is an amazing story it's apparently a small part of a much larger fic. Ulimatly though I decided that didn't matter because this one is just that good. I love, love, love stories that are narrated by outside perspectives and Marcus Bell is the perfect person to narrate this one. When we meet everyone Marcus and his brother Andre are Jeager pilots who have a pretty good thing going. Joan Watson meanwhile is the only surviving member of Team Watson and has, to the shock of everyone, formed an odd friendship with 'Gregson's pet project' former addict Sherlock Holmes. This fic combines both words in a wonderful and seamless way making sure that not only all their best parts are brought in but also their worst. The relationships are also spot on for what they would be in a world like this one without losing what makes them so epic in canon.

11th-Sep-2013 12:14 pm Civilisation by eyebrowofdoom (Rated: Explicit)
Fandom: ELEMENTARY
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/Joan Watson
Length: 1221
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eyebrowofdoom
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: This story gave me a new prospective on Sherlock that made so much sense I was kind of hitting myself for not thinking of it before. Civilization is also one of my favorites because it reminds me so much of the show in the way that Joan and Sherlock orbit each other and just *know* what the other one is thinking. Finally I think that this one must be read because if Joan and Sherlock ever did enter a romantic relationship this would be it. It would be all snark and eccentricness with a mix of gentle touches and total understanding.

7th-Sep-2013 02:22 am The Odd Trio by: liggytheauthoress (PG)
Fandom: ELEMENTARY
Pairing: Gen with Sherlock Holmes, Joan Watson, Marcus Bell, and Cylde
Length: > 500 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: I love this one because it is an outside point of view on Joan and Sherlock's living arrangement. A pipe bursts in Marcus Bell's apartment so he lives with Joan and Sherlock for a while and his take on the whole things is hysterical but realistic. It's also a great one because it brings into light all the crap that Joan puts up with at home that no one knew about before. Examples of this are naked Sherlock and random experiments at all hours of the day/night. This also shines a light on how someone so totally domestic (Joan) and live happily with their exact opposite and how sometimes you have no idea what you want until it's gone.
