08:10 am Telegraph Avenue by Zahra (NC-17)
Fandom: The O.C.
Pairing: Seth/Ryan, Seth/Jamie (original character)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: Dysfunctional

Why this must be read: I am so excited about getting to rec this fic, I can't tell you. As far as I know, this is the longest fic so far in The O.C. fandom (nine chapters!), and definitely one of the very best. This is a futurefic, wherein Seth and Ryan are roommates in college at Berkeley, and Zahra uses her extensive knowledge of the Berkeley campus and surrounding area to great effect. You really feel like you're there. Also, her Seth and Ryan characterizations are spot-on perfect. She has created a whole universe here, and (like many in the fandom) I read this fic chapter by chapter as she posted it in her lj, and when it was over, I was sad to leave the world she created. One of her creations is Jamie, a nuanced, fascinating (and HOT) original character, who is just as complex and believable as Seth and Ryan are in this story.

This is Jamie.

She has even included outtakes and a soundtrack at the end (on the lj version.)

Read it, and praise her like you should.

08:14 am Oklahoma by Amperage and Livengoo (NC-17)
Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: None (gen)
Author(s) Website(s): Unknown, but check Gossamer for more of their work.
Why This Must Be Read: Two years ago, when I was going camping for a week, I made a plea to my friends for good, long stories I could print out and bring with me so I woudn't lose my mind with no 'net-fic access. [livejournal.com profile] imkalena responded with Oklahoma, which she'd already printed for herself, and wanted a good home for. It was very badly formatted, with no line breaks to speak of. But after the first page, I just didn't care.

The story is set pre-X-Files, when Mulder was the Boy Wonder of the ViCAP program. It's canon that he "burned out" as a profiler, and this story is one possible answer to how. It's violent and scary at times, and not at all pretty. But Jumpin' Jeebus, it's good.

I won't waste any more of your time -- Go! Read!

08:22 am Safe Sex by Skinner Box (PG - 13)
Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek
Author's Website: Skinner Box
Why This Must Be Read: It's labelled "Lemon-Garlic Hummous" (old in-joke, sorry) but it's quite a nice look inside the minds of both men. Watch! as they fool themselves while thinking they're fooling each other.

Safe Sex

While I've got you here, hop over to the site and check out the Leedsville stories -- they're all Krycek/Jeffrey Spender, and very much worth reading. I promise.

12:27 pm Fic Recc: The View From Here by Rowan (pop)
Fandom: Pop
Pairing: Justin/Neptunes
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] littlerhymes
Author Website: Sideshow

Why this must be read: Because I like Rowan's writing for one. What? We're not suddenly authorities? Alright, personal prejudice aside, how many stories do you see with Pharrell AND Chad in them? How about ones that explain Justin's sudden obsession with Pharrell in any kind of real way?

Extra info: Who are these Neptunes? Only the most powerful producers in pop music right now. (And they're cute.) The rap group that Pharrell and Chad are in with another guy is called N.E.R.D, and Justin shouts out to them on his record. http://www.startrakmusic.com/web/index.html Star Trak is their production company. If you've seen Justin doing the Vulcan finger signal, it's because of Chad and Pharrell.

01:01 pm fic recc: Dark Horse by Betty Plotnick
Fandom: Pop
Pairing: JC/Eminem
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bettyp
Author Website: Unknown Name

Why this must be read: It's Betty writing about JC. Isn't that enough? The rambling, fragmented, overly analytical and simultaneously flakey thoughts are just brilliant. Honestly, for popslashers, I don't have to explain why this is a must read. For everyone else, I'll tell you to check this out, and even if this one story isn't for you, skip around in her archive until you find something you *do* like. She'll have something, and she's a real talent. But if you go in for fluff with no substance, she's not for you. Betty *is* smart, and she writes smart.

This story also stars Marshall, and originally I was asked to recc stories about him.

AU, read it to find out how.

01:12 pm Candy Perfume Boys by Brenda & Val (NC-17)
Fandom: Lotrips
Pairing: Viggo/Dominic/Orlando (Dominic/Orlando)
Authors on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] azewewish and [livejournal.com profile] shinysparkly
Authors Website: broadwriting, illusion

Why this must be read: Two of Lotrips's best writers worked together to create crack, pure crack. It involves eyeliner, nail polish, hair dye, and "pink!Viggo and the Roos" on world tour. It's one of the most hilarious things I have ever read. I laughed tears. Don't try to eat or drink while reading it, you'll only make a mess. The plot is on crack and I can't even begin to describe the characters.

"Jesus, Vig! How many shades of eyeliner do you need?" Bloody Tigger. I need as many as I goddamn well choose. I'll shut him up. Open up my new Soot eyeliner and colour a mustache on his smirking face before he can blink. Quick Draw Mortensen, that's me. Little fucker. I think Dom's going to hurt something from laughing. Hmm, what's he got? I'll just pilfer his little stash while he's busy giggling at his boyfriend. I like that blue glittery nail polish. He can just have his Elf-bitch fetch him another...

05:36 pm From the Other River Bank by Dwimordene (PG-13)
Fandom: LORD OF THE RINGS
Pairing: Boromir/Faramir
Author Website: http://www.dwimordenespage.org/ and here's an archive with more of her works: http://www.henneth-annun.net/stories/story_sort.cfm?STAuthorID=5&CSCharID=0&STCategoryID=0&STGenreID=0

Why this must be read: As you can see from above, this story has incest but it's really not graphic at all. The story is also very long. But the language, plot, and angst are just beautiful. I especially love this story because it lets the reader explore the world Boromir lived in before the Quest. Also because I'm a sucker for tales of unrequited love. :)
