Chimera
The Schroedinger Variant

Why these must be read:
Maayan, you will find as you read her blog and her stories, is an astoundingly intelligent woman. Echoes of quantum physics principles in Farscape plotlines and character arcs had her boning up on quantum mechanics for fun. She applies her psychology and profiling background to the characters and strips them down to their necessary parts. Her prose is straightforward and deceptively simple; she covers all the angles. Have I mentioned I think she's the greatest thing since sliced bread?

Chimera and TSV take place in the aftermath of "Fractures," after John's declaration, but before we saw how it all went down in "I-Yensch, You-Yensch" and "Into the Lion's Den I, II." Maayan turned out to be scarily prescient about some things, and even bleaker than canon in others. She loves John, but she also loves to hurt him, and the Uncharteds give her plenty of scalpels to wield.

Though I love all Maayan's stuff, this story and its sequel are a good entry point for someone just discovering her - the reader gets a taste of the darkness she can conjure, but it is tempered by the warmth of John's big brother to Jool's little sister relationship, and the stories nicely balance some action-y plot with character introspection. The character's voices don't get any clearer than this.

Why this must be read:
because it's my birthday and i'm being egotistical. but, it's a pretty damn good fic. not quite as apocalyptic as "i don't know much," this is set a few years into the future (like most of my stuff), maria returns to roswell to fulfill a promise she made. the story is told in both the present and past tense, slowly unraveling the life, and the secret, maria's been living.

it's a little AU, a little sci-fi and a whole lotta angst - if that's your cup of tea, i think you'll like it muchly.
