Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: none Author has no personal journal or webpage that I can find. Why this must be read: There are some fabulous world-building skills at work here. An AU taking place some time after Fractures, Golden Apples is what a Farscape episode-turned-summer-blockbuster-movie would be. Action, adventure, snarkage, pulse pistols, Scarrans, Peacekeepers, crazy plans and even crazier piloting ensue after Crichton, Jool, and Chiana, escaping a botched attempt to blow up Scorpius' command carrier, crash-land on an interdicted planet. In addition to writing a long, smart-moving plot, (as if that wasn't enough), BetanSurvey created an entirely new race and a good handful of original characters to go along with it, with a thorough history and multi-strata society. Rumor has it that she's working on a sequel (being posted serially at the Kansas boards). As one last added inducement, there is a ship named the Repulsive Upholstery. Golden Apples

Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: some John/Aeryn, though it's what I'd consider a gen fic. author's journal: The Max FactorWhy this must be read: A very long, darkly trippy AU that spins the ‘scape universe on its head. It starts at the very beginning, switching the fates of Tauvo Crais and Aeryn Sun – he is sucked into Moya’s starburst, she is struck by Crichton’s shuttle – and survives. What follows is Aeryn’s life among the Peacekeepers, as she is selected for special service as a Black Ghost - the front-line spy/commandos of the peacekeepers. This fic could operate as the canon guide to Peacekeeper society, and it's fascinating stuff. The tape plays, but the movie is not as we remember it - the major plot points of the series (everything through the end of season 3) are preserved, the major characterisations and interactions, but a John without Aeryn develops somewhat differently, and an Aeryn who never left the peacekeepers is another animal altogether. More introverted and darkly intense, Aeryn is a walking catalyst to match John. Fair warning - this three-volume fic (think the Lord of the Rings: three volumes, one story) will suck. you. in. Prepare to be seated for a very long time; I seem to remember my roommates dusting me off at one point... In the Company of Ghosts

Fandom: HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET Pairing: Munch/Kay Author on LJ: tangleofthornsAuthor Website: fics at both Sparkgirls and SchismWhy this must be read: My all-time favorite pairing in any fandom is John Munch and Kay Howard; the first time I read a MunchenKay fic, suddenly all their scenes -- their squadroom banter, Munch's attempts to find out who Kay's dating, and the unforgettable scene during "Sniper" where Munch goes off on Kay because he just can't bear the thought of seeing her get shot again -- fell into place. The Fall of a Sparrow is one of the loveliest and most bittersweet of MunchenKay fics; Luna's love for these characters just radiates off the page. Plus, it has a damn good interrogation scene. The Fall of a Sparrow is set post-movie, during the first season of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. (Knowledge of SVU is helpful but not necessary.) In New York, Munch collars a rapist by the name of Frank Cantwell -- the same lowlife who murdered Beau Felton and got away with it -- and realizes he has one shot to make things right for Kay and her lost partner. Fandom: HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET Pairing: Munch/Kay, Russert/Felton Author on LJ: verdandi and also violetisblueAuthor Website: http://www.certando.net/Why this must be read:Because by now you could probably use a break from all the damn depressing fics I've recommended! Munch Ado About Nothing places Shakespeare's great comedy Much Ado About Nothing in Fells Point, where both Beau Felton's good name and his budding romance with Megan Russert are threatened by the evil plots of Gaffney the Bastard. Munch and Kay, naturally, stand in for Shakespeare's beloved battling lovers Beatrice and Benedick, blissfully unaware that Bayliss has bet Pembleton he can get the two to fall in love. The better you know Shakespeare, the more fun it is -- and the sound of Shakespeare's poetry punctuated by Kay's trademark "huh?" is worth the price of admission. It's a brilliant blend of two very different worlds that's surprisingly touching and nothing short of hilarious. "And now we'll fit the kid-fox with a pennyworth. Faith, I have no idea what I meant by that."Munch Ado About Nothing

Fandom: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER--crossover with Homicide Pairing: Faith/Tim Bayliss Author on LJ: chicatingAuthor Website: none Why you must read this: I missed the official Crossover day when I was on vacation so I'm doing it today. I give you---Defender of the Faith. Chicating had an amazing idea "what if the squad of Homcide was in Sunnydale instead of Baltimore?" She kept everyone the same, all the relationships and important touchstones in their lives---Bayliss and Pembleton, Kay, Beau, Munch. Adena Watson. So now that you know the set up why should you read this? This is the official summary: "Afterward, Tim liked to say that he sensed her rather than saw her, this teenager in a temptress' body." Tim sees Faith hitch hiking and picks her up. Tim gets a wee bit attached and can't stop thinking about Faith, thinking and worrying and pondering. She nails the characters and the dailouge. The scenes in the squad room sound as if they came straight from the show Homicide. Well, if it were set in Sunnydale and they talked about Slayers. Here's the link: http://archive.shriftweb.org/archive/20/defenderof.htmlSorry I left it out during my original post. She's getting ready to post her *other* Homicide/Buffy crossover, again Homicide in Sunnydale, except Xander goes selling Band Candy to the police department. It's called Sweets for the Sweet.

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1 Pairing: Jack/Daniel Author on LJ: (if applicable) hellblazer06Author Website: http://uk.geocities.com/havisham06/lair.htmThe stories are at the link "Satyricon." Why this must be read: In the episode, The Light., Jack, Daniel, Sam and a child they found on a Goa'uld pleasure planet are forced to stay on said planet for a few weeks in order to beat an addiction to an alien mechanism that displays a beautiful light. Many a story has been written about what happened during those weeks. This one is my favorite. Sex and snark. You can't have one without the other when you're talking about Jack and Daniel. Hellblazer delivers both. Lots of sex, lots of snark, some anger, a mental meltdown and just the right amount of tenderness. What's not to love? Okay, there is an element of apology fic here, but it's kept to a bare minimum and thus, is tolerable. Orpheus
